Is there any way to fix broken antlers that are in velvet? I just shot a buck and he broke his beam when he fell. Still in velvet

Are you going to try and freedom mount that as well? If so, I think you have to remove the antlers anyway, so I'm sure you could epoxy them before you preserve the velvet.

Isn't it kinda hard or expensive to mount velvet? Like some kind of chemical applied to preserve?

Going to make a good rug for sure. Beautiful animals

Yeah looked into mounting. Velvet makes it not worth it for a buck this size so unfortunately just gonna get a rug made.

Didn't your mamma teach you how to wash your face? You missed a few spots.

That's just a little texture on the ol' saddle

Not hard, from what I know.

Have a good friend who is a taxidermist. I shot a velvet mule deer a few years ago. I took it to him, and we sat around the campfire for about 15 minutes while he injected it with some sort of solution to preserve the velvet. Then, he coated the velvet with it, really soaked it. I put it in the freezer for about a month (I think), and then pulled it out and brushed the velvet to puff it back up. Has been hanging on the wall for a few years, with no change whatsoever.

To be fair, I don't know how much the chemical costs. But the process wasn't hard at all.

One of the front "scoop" tines broke in half when he fell. It's limp dickin' under the velvet

Does the 6.5 creedmoor have a bad reputation? The 6.5 swede does just fine on moose

I have some friends that don't like it. They call it the "6.5 Bleedmoor." Some on here don't care for it either I think.

I don't have much experience with it, but would venture to guess that a well placed bullet from a 6.5CM will kill a deer just as dead as anything else

I think it is an extra 100 to 200 added to the mount. I'm having one done now but it was a year ago I paid for it so don't remember exact price details other than more expensive. Plus the proper care to velvet before you can drop off at taxidermist like keeping cold
