How do y'all store gasoline/gas cans around the house? Had a buddy recently loose his garage and almost his house to a fire - sparked by wiring issue but gas cans really got it going.

I generally have more than just a can for the mower. Several 5 gallon cans for ethanol free (generator), and a few more 110/leaded for an old car. Prefer the "racing cans" over the PITA safety cans. Really don't like having that much in the garage.

Special shed or cabinet in the back yard? Only place I have would be up against outside wall of garage…

I don't keep much on hand so it's in the garage. Just a couple gallons of various blends for lawn tools.

At work we use the Just Rite Safety cans with the 5/8" pour spout. They're steel cans with lid on a strong spring with quality cork seals. I've never smelled gas from them.

I think a shed would be the best place for them if they're plastic cans.

I had a summer job with a lawn car service once where we had to unload the cans into a gasoline metal cabinet every evening.

Not sure if they are fire resistant though. Don't think it would help if a whole garage was on fire.

A separate shed like you mentioned seems like the best case for the amount a volume you hand.

They make flammables storage cabinets. They are quite pricey. We have a bunch at work, but never seen one at someone house, although I'm sure some people do. It isn't fire proof, but it does protect flammables from the usual ignition sources besides a fully involved house fire.
