On the hunt for a new EDC knife and am intrigued by using a fixed blade in a horizontal sheath. Have been researching but haven't been able to find fairly plain, affordable option. Wants:
Not bulky - slender handle - size would basically sit in the footprint of belt.
3.5" - 4" fixed blade,
horizontal sheath with "friction retention?" - i.e. no snap strap etc. to manipulate - is such a thing available?
Decent quality, affordable - just a utilitarian EDC.
Something like this:

recs appreciated

I have a Bradford with the horizontal leather sheath. It's been great.

Mine.

I like how the blade is on the "wrong" side of the knife. Its counter intuitive at first until you realize that its actually as it should be for a knife like that.

Exactly what I am looking for - TexAgs knows stuff. Slender sheath with no snaps or velcro for retention etc. and affordable.

Any other brands with something like this?

Not that I'm aware of....but I probably know 5-6 guys that carry that now. I also roll Jiu Jitsu and the minute I started I realized that a knife like that would be the ticket.

You're not getting that tacticool EDC folding knife out with a 300lb guy grabbing you etc. You sure as hell aren't getting a Case or Old Timer type knife out. Not that I don't love those knives, I've had several, but they're not going to be functional in a fight.

Unless you prefer leather, Armatus Carry makes some great kydex sheaths that have excellent retention. You just have to apply pressure on the "thumb ramp" to remove the knife easily. They make sheaths for several major brands and also do custom sheaths for brands not listed on their site, but you have to mail them your knife for molding.

Their sheaths can be carried in the scout position.

A Pioneer Woman paring knife with a Greenforce Tactical custom sheath, or any place you can find one. Ed Calderon talked about this setup on the Vigilance Elite podcast and the knife has been sold out for some time. Nothing screams tactical than a knife with flowers or a nice seafoam green handle.

Because you can buy it super cheap at any Walmart. And it has roses on it. Cartel gangster *****

It is cheap (less than $15), full tang, pretty hard steel, extremely sharp, and Ed said it tested better than almost all "tactical" knives that cost several hundred dollars when it came to stabbing humans. When he was in law enforcement in Mexico he said most of the non military/police murders were done with kitchen knives.

Besides the excellent suggestions above, you might also look at the offerings from ESEE and TOPS Knives.

Cold Steel has a few that meet your requirements as well, including the "affordable" part. The Spike series are extremely thin, and come in several 4" blade style options.

Schrade also has a few that also meet your requirements quite easily. Take a look at the SCHF13, SCHF 14, and SCHF59. Schrade's folders aren't anything to write home about, but their fixed blades seem to perform pretty well.

Did it come with the belt clip? see lots of reviews there was no clip...

Mine did. It's not strictly a clip, it is a belt slide that screws onto the sheath. It can carry vertically or horizontally.
