3/4 ton needs new tires

Mostly highway driving, but also on rocks/mild off-road every day

Haul 5-10K loads fairly frequently, so stopping capability is important

Basically mixed use…100 mile daily round trip, off pavement on ranch roads daily, fairly frequent hauling of light to moderate loads

Leaning BFG KO2…but Michelin Defender LTX, Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac, and Nitto Terra Grappler under consideration

Fairly happy with current Firestone Transforce…happy with both Michelin and KO2 in the past

Just looking for some up to date opinions

TIA

Replaced my K02's with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers, like them so far.

Been running & have had great luck & mileage out of the Ridge Grapplers for 8 years across 4 different 3/4 tons.

I still run BFG and I like them but most will recommend Toyo and Nitto and you won't go wrong - BFG AT KO2 is a little louder and you will likely get more miles out of the Nitto or Toyo

I have had Mich LTX AT2's and LTX Defender (M/S) previously. Went with BFG KO2s this time. If you aren't needing to go through mud very often I would go with the LTX AT2s. They are far better with wear, on road traction, and on road comfort than the KO2s. But if you aren't looking for the Highway comfort and traction or value that less than looks get the KO2s. I wouldn't really put the Nittos in the same league. I have never had a new set, but put some used ones on my expedition. They had good enough traction but I have heard that they don't last as long as the above two. My only data point on that though is only getting about 25k miles on a set with measured 50% tread life when I got them. Sold the vehicle with them on it and passed inspection just prior to selling.

I have used just about everything out there over the years. Currently running Cooper AT3's. Had them for about a year and a half. Really like them so far. They will easily outlast my last set of BFG's and only cost about 75% of what the BFG's cost

the Cooper AT3's I had performed equally with the KO2s and cost a decent amount less. assuming you religiously rotate and balance the KO2s, they seemed to last just as long as the AT3's, wear-wise. I like the tread on the KO2s a little bear though.

KO2s are still my choice, despite the higher price. as long as you keep them rotated and balanced. As soon as one of them starts to wear uneven, they are toast.

Longtime user of Michelin AT's... they had/have a serious problem on 275/65R20s... developing knots and failing, particularly in heat. Both me and my father had multiple issues... I had 2 go bad, he had 3.

Michelin has problems. Stay away from at least this tire size in the AT2, but their issues might extend to compounds as well.

I've got 90,000 miles out of two different sets of KO2's on my Tundra. Worth the penny if you ask me, although snow traction isn't the best (may not matter where you are)

I'm on my 3rd set of KO2s on my f350 with 90k miles. I'm going Duratrac next set as I feel like these burn through tread too quickly.

Those have been known to have weak sidewalls if I remember right

I've had BFGs, Michelin ATs, El Dorado MTs, and currently on Nitto Terras for my 3/4 ton Cummins .

The Michelin's lasted the longest, cost the most, and did not perform all that well in anything sloppy (did fine with gravel/semi paved roads).

The BFGs looked good, were loud on the highway, and that heavy engine ate them for breakfast.

El Dorado Mud Claws did about as expected. Did great off road until the tread was cupped/worn. Then they got Loud and couldn't keep them balanced.

Nittos I've only had since about June this year. Tread wear is minimal even driving ROWs, dirt roads, mat roads a good bit, and somewhere in the middle on cost. I'll probably be staying with Nitto unless I get away from pipeline work, then I'd consider another Michelin set.

If you ask guys that depend on their trucks to get them to the job site, there will be a lot of Nitto and BFG fans. Nitto seems to be more prevalent now, at least where I'm from. 10 years ago it would be BFGs in a landslide.

I've been through a lot of bfg ats but if you're putting in a lot of highway miles but on rocks every day I'd get the wranglers with kevlar in load range e. Those were the toughest tires I've ever had on a dd

Not a popular choice for many-for some reason- and it's on an F-150 but I'm on my third set of Pirelli scorpions since new and have no complaints and 170k miles

I have no personal experience with K02s on a 3/4 ton, but it seems the general consensus is they don't hold up well on a heavy diesel. Nothing against BFG (I have KM2s on my Jeep and KM3s on my Land Cruiser), just what I hear. Duratracs seem to have a reputation for weak sidewalls.

My last sets on my diesels have been Toyo ATs, Nitto Trail Grapplers, and Toyo MTs (x2). The Toyo MTs are hands down my favorite truck tire, but may be a little aggressive. My only complaint with any of the above tires is the Nittos seeming to have significantly worse wet pavement traction than the others.

The following seem to be the overwhelming recommendations I see, in no particular order:

Nitto Ridge Grappler
Falken Wildpeak AT
Cooper AT3 XLT
Toyo AT3/RT/MT

Honestly if your happy with the Transforces, it doesn't sound you need anything too aggressive so I'd skip the Ridge Grapplers. I run Cooper ST Maxx on my 2500, and although they look great and wear surprisingly well, I'll probably be moving to some Cooper AT3s for less road noise. I know a lot of guys run them as well as the Falken ATs. My brother runs a lot KO2s on his 3/4 ton, but I never feel like they last very long.

On all the ranch trucks we strictly use Michelin. Tried Hankook, cooper, BFG. I don't use import tires.
I liked Cooper but they wear out quick. Same as BFG. Pay more for Mich but worth it.

My F250 has Michelin LTX AT2 on it as does GMC 2500 ranch truck. Neither has got stuck and they've held up extremely well hauling and driving some pretty crappy county roads and my equally crappy ranch road.

You dont see these Nittos a lot - the EXO Grappler - but they have been dang good for me so far and look to go at least 80k including a lot of caliche ranch and oil field roads.

I made the switch to the Toyo AT3 and I love those things. They aren't loud at all and look more aggressive than my previous.

Michelin LTX AT2 on my Titan. Smooth ride and slow, even wear. Then again I'm a stickler for rotation/balance every 6-8k miles.

I had Bridgestone Duelers on the Sierra that we previously owned and liked those but the Michelins are definitely a step above.

I have had the opposite experience on my F250. I was lucky to get 45k out of the KO2's. I am currently at about 50k on the Coopers and they still have a lot of life left in them. Probably go at least another year.

Last set of Michelins went 107,000 miles (documented at Discount tire) but rotated them often. Current set at 60k and NOT going to make 80. Have a set of KO2s on another truck that have gone 60, but won't make another 10. Michelin has always been better for not getting flats in the brush country where I live.
I’ve seen them play since way back when,
And they’ve always had the grit;
I’ve seen ‘em lose and I’ve seen ‘em win,
But I’ve never seen ‘em quit.

I had garbage wear on the Nitto Grapplers i had on my 3/4 Dodge, would not recommend them to anybody.

Coopers did well, a did the several sets of Goodyear Wranglers I had on my F250.
