Suppressor question

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I want to get the process starting for getting some suppressors. I don't know enough about them to know which calibers can share one suppressor.

The calibers I want to suppress are 22 LR, .308, 5.56, 9mm and 12 gauge. The only thing I am sure of is that I want a dedicated 22 suppressor due to frequency of use...and I assume a 12 gauge would have to be dedicated.

Can one can be used on 308, 556 and 9?

If you only get 3: 30 cal can, 45 can, 22 can.

30 cal cans are good for .308/5.56.

9mm is too big for a 30 cal bore, so might as well get a 45 can that can do any pistol caliber.

22 can because 22 is super dirty

Look for the same qualities in your can as you do in your ladies.

Bender is spot on, but I decided to get a dedicated 9mm since I only have one 45acp but several 9mm hosts. Slightly smaller/lighter than .45 cans. I also might get a .45 too. Cans grow on you like fake boobs…never satisfied with your first choice.

I also form 1 mine from a kit. Latest was 8 days from apply for stamp, purchase, get stamp to pew pew.

You could cover the pistol, 22 and centerfire rifle needs with one stamp if you go with a modular design. I recently did the solvent trap > suppressor manufacture via a form 1.

You could serialize the central tube, then have multiple end caps, baffles, and mount interfaces to cover all the needs except the shotgun on one stamp.

Can't shoot rifle cartridges through most pistol silencers, they aren't rated for the pressure.

I would get a .22 rimfire lightweight 1/2 x28 threaded silencer. You will use it a lot.

Next a .45 cal silencer with a thread adapter to use on 9 mm. You really won't notice the difference using 9 mm Subsonic Ammo in a .45 silencer.

Then a .30 cal. Rifle silencer that screws onto a muzzle break. Use same style muzzle break on different rifles.
Most have proprietary threaded muzzle breaks ( such as AAC).

Nah, scratch all that multiple flexibility stuff I wrote above.

Just get an integral barrel silencer for a Ruger 10/22.

You will have a hoot with it and shoot it the most anyhow.

Have fun!

Check out the dead air nomad, standard or titanium. I got one last year to add to my collection and it is really a good can. Will fit your .308 and 5.56 needs.

Wait 2 weeks to submit, digital form 4's and fingerprints are coming back.

I have some 45 cal cans and personally I'd get 22, 30, and 9mm first. The 9 is just so much better than 45 that if you're truly wanting quiet, you won't mess with the 45. And the whole price of ammo thing. Subsonic 9mm is a sweet spot in the suppressor world.

Here's an old post I did with some thoughts on the 12ga.

So I'll tag along here as well with some questions that I had as well...

Got my first AR pistol this past summer and also have a Ruger PC9 carbine rifle that I would like to also have a suppressor on.

Looking at taking advantage of the Silencerco deal, going through Capitol Armory and getting the omega 300 which will be for the AR pistol and future purchases and then the Octane 45 for free with their buy one, get one free deal that's now running though a Christmas Eve to use with the carbine

Am I correct in my thinking that these should both work well for the AR pistol and 9mm carbine?

Also, for the AR and the Ruger carbine, they both have a 1/2x28 thread. Do I need an adapter or anything to attach them safely and effectively? The AR has a muzzle brake alert and that thing could wake the dead and the Ruger doesn't have a brake, just a screwed on piece to cover the threads

Any advice is appreciated

didn't want to create a new thread, but have a suppressor question as well so thought i'd piggy-back off this one.

i have a rugged obsidian 9: https://ruggedsuppressors.com/pistol-suppressors/obsidian9/

it says on the website that it's rated to .300BLK (subsonic) with an 8" barrel.

i don't currently have a .300BLK, but am thinking about it. am i correct in assuming that my current can would work as long as i only use subsonic rounds with AT LEAST an 8" barrel? in other words, if i wanted to get a ruger american ranch or a standard 16" AR, it should be fine, right?

Correct those are minimum barrel lengths. You can go longer.

Do you use a trust?

Open question to all. Who do y'all use to setup trusts? Most of my trust related questions are probably best answered by a lawyer, but I'll ask a couple anyway just to see if anyone has had similar situations.

Is it better to wait and add children until they are 17?

Does anyone have provisions written in on keeping track of individual assets in the trust and how those are distributed? Might be asking the wrong thing, but lets say I'm on a trust with my father in law, brother-in-laws, wife, and children, if I pay for an item 100% I would want that to only go to my wife or children. Is that possible, or do any of y'all have anything similar? At the end of the day I know I wouldn't really have to worry about it with my family, but you never know.

If I understand everything correctly, all trustees are ok to possess any item within the trust is that correct? Do all trustees do BG checks? This isn't an issue, just want to give all info I can to the other parties.

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

My trust has certain firearms going to certain people. I have mine set up on an inventory schedule and referenced in the body of the trust. An attorney might write things differently but AFAIK, in Texas, there is nothing that would restrict that type of assignment

Yes, all trustees/responsible parties can possess. All trustees have to do pics/prints if they're on the trust when submitted to ATF for processing. Easiest way around that is to amend the trust, remove all other trustees, submit trust/NFA forms to ATF, and then amend the trust again and add everyone back once the paperwork is in the mail. Super simple process if your trust is set up with the trustees listed on a schedule/attachment vs in the body of the trust.

Finally got around to trying out my rugged obsidian 9 on my banshee. Pretty pleased with it.

Quick question though, do you guys clean your suppressors after every use? I cleaned mine last night, but was just curious what others did.

Initially, I think most folks do. But after using a few times and realizing what a pain it is, I backed off the frequent cleaning and just do it after a few hundred rounds.

Get an ultrasonic cleaner. Harbor Freights will work in a pinch. I don't typically disassemble my cans to clean them. Throw them in the bath, let it run 20-30 mins, shake them out and it's good. I do loosen/tighten the end caps afterwards b/c the threads seize fairly easily

Is this safe for aluminum cans and components?

I don't believe you're supposed to use ultrasonic cleaners on aluminum. That's what Capitol Armory told me for my CGS Mod9.
txyaloo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You can but you need to use a neutral cleaning solution meant for aluminum. You also don't want to leave it in a long time.

Thanks guys. While it was somewhat time consuming, I actually really enjoy cleaning guns/parts, so I'll probably stick to the manual cleaning. At least until I add a couple of other cans.

Really been one of the best "tool" investments I've made. I use mine to clean brass for reloading, car parts, entire pistols, bolt groups, suppressors, etc. I'd love to get one big enough to drop an entire AR or mp5 in.
