anyone use any fair chase/low fence (no trophy fee) outfitters? I used rush creek outfitters in kelton this season and was happy with it, but am looking for any other recs on outfitters for 3-5 day hunts for a group of 3-5. not a huge fan of having a guide in the stand, but just looking for some opportunity for an above average deer.

Just wanted to give some input and an opinion on you guys looking at outfitters for low fence or high fence hunts.
Most of your good hunting ranches don't use outfitters much. The reason is that some outfitters have, for the most part, bad reputations from not being truthful with landowners and only care about them making their money.
I am not saying they all are bad, but we quit using outfitters for doing hunts on our ranch years back and I know lots of ranches that have done the same.
You will have a much more enjoyable hunt contacting a individual owned ranch that handles and does hunts on their own.
Oftentimes by using an outfitter you are paying a middle man for doing what you can do for yourself with a little research and effort.
I had outfitters try to get us to do unethical and " canned" hunts but their clients never realized what was being done..... thinking they were " fair chase. ".
I want to say again.... certainly there are good outfitters out there..... but imho you can get more for your money dealing with an individual ranch.

fair points, and i didnt mean to be restrictive on my preference by the arbitrary word choice. I'm fine with either a landowner/ranch or outfitter, I'm not really too picky either way, just trying to find a hunt with low guide presence, a place to stay and cook/eat/relax with some solid deer and an outside chance at a higher end deer.

price wise we paid about 4200 for 5 nights, (10 hunts total, morning and evening) lodging for 3 with meals, and 1 buck, 2 doe and any pigs or anything else that came by. I think the price is fair, if a bit high, but curious what other options there are and if that price is reasonable.

Contact the Texas Wildlife Association and also The Exotic Wildlife Association and tell them what you are looking for. They know the ranches and can recommend some for you.
The EWA has members that have whitetail opportunities.... not just exotic animals.
Also contact some of the taxidermy studios in the hill country.... they usually know ranches as well.
Good luck sir. Hope you have a memorable hunt.

If they truly have a good population of mature deer and of the quality you would be happy with, that is a reasonable and fair price imho.
