Does anyone pour your own soft plastics? I figure I use a ton, why not make my own? Post up if you do.

During my school days there was an old man in town who poured his own as a hobby. I went to see his operation with my dad one day & he had a lizard mold with a big dick & balls on it. He had a few in ziploc bags with a little piece of paper that read "Sick Willy the Lake Raper" call Gary Cave. He gave me about 10 and I took them to school and made the fastest $100 I'd ever made selling them to my buddies. I went back to Gary & told him I needed more & he got to work. I sold those things all over BCS & surrounding areas & made some serious money up until Gary died. That's my contribution, so just know there's a niche buyer for peckered lizards out there if you get into it.

Its been a minute since I messed with it, but locate a mold if you can. Some of the kits where you make your own mold can be finicky, unless youre looking for peckered lizards....
you can get pretty creative by adding scents like garlic, etc.

There are also bait dips and markers to tease up the colors if needed as well. Use the base color for the body and then dip it, as opposed atttempting to mold two different colors together.

Don't overheat in microwave, stuff reeks beyond belief.

It's fun if you like tinkering, but I never ran the ROI calc on it, as picking up a pack or two of Zoom works well for my current needs

It's probably not worth the effort but I am always looking for something fun to tinker with. Peckered lizards sounds hilarious!

My bil did for a couple years and they worked fine. Not very pretty but the bass didn't care. He got the molds from Barlow Tackle in Richardson and we recycled our old worms, which we had plenty of. Wish he still did it.

When I fished on the gulf a bunch, I poured my own.

It's really not hard. Lots of premade molds out there to choose from, and plenty of YouTube vids to get you started.

What I really enjoyed was making my own molds. I would make a bait out of modeling clay, then make a mold of it out of plaster. Then I could pour 4-6 at a time. It was really cool to catch fish on baits I had created and made, and to give them to friends.

I used to get my liquid plastic and supplies from LureCraft

Highly suggest you give it a try!

I'm a retired peckered lizard salesman but I think OP may be onto something here. The licensing office might be a tough sell, but if we can get some maroon & white logo'd peckered lizards into Aggieland Outfitters we could probably scale this thing. I'll just take the residuals for intellectual property rights as mailbox money.

Anxiously looking forward to AC weighing in... either on soft plastic molding or donged lizards.

Damn, you should have bought the mold from him.

I used to make little lures out of caulk and a piece of latex glove and crush the giant trevally with them. Those suckers fought like absolute mad.

This is the best story on here in a long time. Then photo of 'Lake Raper' gets posted.

Outstanding work.

Found all I have left. These are 20 years old & the ziplocs were degrading around them, so I took them all out & repackaged them. Not sure what I'm gonna to with them, but it sure did bring up some really good old memories of a hilarious old man who became my friend. OP, sorry to derail your thread, but thanks for reminding me of these. Rest easy Gary, we're still talking about you down here.

No worries. The lake raper was more interesting anyway. Maybe we should make a mold for those.

I take it you haven't seen the spoons you can buy on Amazon that are shaped like a dicknballz as well. Search for fishing spoons and they'll come up.

I wouldn't mind making some tiny like 1 to 1.25" realistic looking crawfish molds. I used to massacre panfish and small bass on them using ultralight gear, but now everything you see made is 1.5" or larger and targeted at bass, which is not my target species.

Lurecraft has lots of molds available. You should see if there are any for tiny crawfish.

The og lake raper mold is probably sitting in in some old lady's storage shed.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Probably. I guess we could make a mold using an existing bait. I am not sure how hard that is to do, but seems like I have seen Larry do it on his show.

Some day, your grandkids are going to find these stuffed into a shoebox after you die. They are going to be wondering what weird crap Grandpa Wodanaz was up to out there in the garage…

I suggest you leave a note with those baggies explaining, ha ha!

Lake raper OB board fishing tournament.

No rules. Any species. Biggest fish caught on a lake raper holds the title.

I'd bottom fish a Lake raper.

Tip of lake raper hog will will drag bottom and kick up just the right amount of silt.
