Hunting when it's 80 degrees makes it hard to have something too heavy but heading into the brush with a dri-fit, short sleeves or similar leads to bleeding usually.

I'm sure Carhartt canvas or something similar works great when it's cold but haven't seen something light enough to throw on and not sweat to death. I've looked around Academy and haven't seen anything light enough that thorns won't probably tear up (heavy cotton shirts, flannels, or poly)

Any suggestions?

Buy a heavy to mid weight work or shooting shirt a size larger or the same size you normally wear. Orvis, Carhartt or something similar and wear it over a Dri-fit, GameGuard, etc, that's what I do at the ranch down south.

I'll never understand the demise of the UNLINED Carhart brush jacket. I guess it was a regional thing - but growing up in the South Tx in the 80s they were required uniform. Carhart quit making them, then Lapco made them- but I think even they have quit. Are we really down to just the KR saddle shop for a supply now?

Schaffer makes one but it's $160 compared to KR's $108

I have an unlined made by Walls. Not sure if they're still in business or not. I love that thing.

I have never been to south Texas, maybe I'm doing it wrong but it's worked well in the Panhandle, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Why does everyone on here call it a south Texas brush jacket? Lots of places have brush.

You might consider going old school and find a good denim jacket without lining. have one going on 40 years old, still love it.

I have a Carhart i've been wearing for a long time and have a new Walls waiting in the wings. The Carhart gives no signs of giving out though.

Unlined Canvas Jacket

I was given one these years ago, very rarely worn but is still in good shape.

Everything in south Texas has thorns, spines or fangs.
