How long do you want to ignore this user?
Does anyone know of a good lawyer who handles these types of things? I have an online trust I set up several years ago and I have a couple of suppressors, but I have a couple of questions I would like to bounce off someone if I can find the right person to talk to

TIA

I used Jim Willi in Austin and have only good things to say about his service. No office visit needed. We did everything on phone calls and e-mail.

I will second that. Used Jim through Guntrustguru.com First time I sent him an email through his page before buying he called me within a couple minutes and talked to me at length about my questions. Recently emailed him with a question and he responded promptly.

Great guy and you can't do much better for pricing.

Helpful tip -

The below link is the exact same guy as the links above for Texasguntrust, but cheaper. You'll get the same trust drawn up by the same guy.

The difference between the two is an automated one and done trust versus a full service with future changes included in the $300.

I did the online one and done, but needed to make changes, so I ended up having to pay the $300 anyways. YMMV

The one I got through Guntrustguru had forms that I would fill out in order to add more people to the trust, make changes, etc. And when I've emailed Jim, he's been helpful with explaining what I would need to do.

If your needs are very simple with potential simple changes, I think the lesser cost option should be fine. All I will ever have to do is add people to the trust or remove people from the trust. All of that is explained in what I received through Guntrustguru.com

Can't go wrong with either option. They're both drawn up by the same great guy.

I had mine done 5-7 years ago by Chris Bass, who at that time was recommended almost unanimously by this board. He also did an amendment when I took my dad and son off my trust once fingerprinting became mandatory for all trust members. He was terrofic

PM me if you want his contact info.

Why would a gun trust be needed? I probably have 20 or so firearms that I've purchased or were given to me over the years. I'm quite sure the majority are not registered.

Suppressors are an entirely different animal than just a firearm. This is some stupid NFA requirement

Only for suppressors and SBRs

It's not that much of a worry. Takes about 10 minutes to set up and about $80.

I deal with far bigger worries daily than that.

Forgive my longwinded 2 cents. Bought my first suppressor thru the Silencer Shop and did their on-line, fill in the blanks, gun trust. Figured I'd only be buying one suppressor. Right, like I'll only buy one gun.

The problem I soon realized was this was difficult to amend, change, add members, etc. I ended up with Jim Willi and he did great. After we moved to SA area, we needed to update our Will. Went to local firm that did Wills & Trusts based on a trusted recommendation. It was a father/son law firm. We worked with the son who was a great guy who also did gun trusts. He said he would redo my gun trust at no charge since we were doing a new Will and Living Trust. Loved what he did as added additional flexibility. Tragically, this mid 30s, athletic attorney died suddenly from a congenital heart defect. Unfortunately, he was the only attorney at the firm who did gun trusts.

My lesson learned was to spend the extra and deal with someone like Jim Willi rather than be short sighted (like I was originally) trying to save a few bucks. I'll probably end up going back to Willi at some point

As others have said, most gun trust deal with class 3 firearm items (suppressors, short barreled rifles, etc.), although you could include typical firearms as well if you wanted. Not sure what state you are in, but if in Texas (and many other states) there is no gun registration. The 4473 that is required at first point of sale is not supposed to be treated as a registration in that the Feds are not allowed by law to keep that information indefinitely. Firearm dealers are required to keep it for 20 years I think, but the Feds are not supposed to have access to that information unless that particular firearm has been involved in a crime. However, gun dealers are required to submit their records if they go out of business.

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Jim Willi fixed a goofed up trust that was done by the gun shop I bought my first can from. Wish I had gone to him originally, very knowledgeable and accessable. When you send an email or call, you talk to him, not a paralegal or assistant.
