This critter was on my windshield yesterday. Someone said maybe it is an assassin bug but I know the OB has experts on such things so please weigh in if you know.

It's a little prehistoric looking.

That's a wheel bug - a type of assassin bug.

Their bites are quite painful but they do not carry Chagas like their kissing bug cousins.
