Was in the big box this afternoon and noticed they had some Leupold Rainier HD 10x42 binoculars for $170. It's a store only deal and a specific model so I can't find any details online. Anyone know anything about these?

I don't know about that model but anything Leupold puts it's name on in my opinion is solid and with Costco's return policy it's worth a shot.

I dunno man. I looked at them. Not sure they aren't Loupolds.

Will post pics as soon as I find a mobile platform that works these days. Imgur app only and tinypic dead?

Possibly the same model just renamed? Reviews show that these are Costco brand as well.

FYI, did confirm these are essentially the BX-1 McKenzie HD. Specs all line up except for eye relief and total length. Hoping these drop down to ~$130 like in recent years and will pick these up for the truck.

Ended up grabbing a pair yesterday because my store only had a few left but haven't played with them yet. This morning I got to poking around on the REI website and saw that I can pick up a pair of Vortex DB HD 8x42 for $5 more with the current 20% off. 10x42 are about a $15 premium.

Any thoughts on the DB HD over the Leupold BX1 HD?

Did you end up using the ones from Costco? I saw them today and was going to grab a couple for my high school aged boys to use from a deer blind. I figure they are good enough for that kind of use.

Scheels is having a great sale on some Vortex Diamodbacks right now. Bought a pair for my son-in-law for Christmas. The Academy by our house price matched them.

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

I had all 3 open and out at one point (Costco Leupolds, Vortex DB, and Bass Pro Vortex Vipers) and ended up with the Vipers. They are obviously better glass at a higher price point, but that was money well spent for me. The Costco specials were fine, and would serve just fine, but I couldn't pass up the Viper HD.

If I ever come across the Costo Leupolds on sale at the $100-130 mark like they have in the past, I'll buy them for a companion set.
