Anybody have experience doing a walk in hunt in the marsh down there? What's it like?

My 16 year old left our house at 3 this morning to make the 125 mile drive with 3 other kids to go hunt the youth opener. They are all experienced hunters but needless to say Dad is a little nervous. One of the kids had been there before hunting so I was told not to worry…

Did they walk in off the beach? If so it's not bad, it's a haul once you turn off the highway but the beach is pretty hard packed and is an easy drive. The walk isn't too bad either, if he is with people that have hunted it before they should be fine.

I'm not sure on the route but we have never been there. Mine hasn't hunted the marsh before- just flooded fields and ponds. Football players so they should be up for the hike in.

Just got a text that they have 4 teal and 3 widgeon and still hunting.

Believe it or not, I used to guide on there for Los Patos back when it was still owned by Bill White…. The back section closer to the intercostal is some of the most brutal marsh imaginable. But, most everything accessible by foot from the beach is fairly easy. Especially for 16 year old flat bellys…. Some of the best duck hunting in the world back in the day.

I heard a story about a dude hunting that area a few years ago. Dude gets lost or stuck somehow.

He covers his entire body in mud, predator style to keep mosquitos off him.

They send a helicopter to look for him. They fly right past him because he's covered in mud and they cant see him.

Dude eventually walks out on his own and gets mad at the authorities for flying right over him several times.

Seems like this happened around 05 - 06 timeframe. Can anybody confirm?

We used to have a lease back in the day right off of Clam Lake...Marsh is marsh. not easy walking.

Those little marsh ponds used to hold lots of birds.

I used to tromp all around out there well before cell phones...

Stat I did pack his Ammo box. After the shells that was the first thing added. Full can of deep woods off. Salt water mosquitoes are the most miserable. Those real small ones.

I used to hunt with Los Patos when I was a yute.
