Buckets for deer feeders?

What do y'all use for buckets for deer feeders?

I've had some 5 gallon metal buckets but the lids seem to fall off and disappear. I see the bucket feeders for sale, but they are $50-60+

I've also used some plastic buckets, with a screw off lid I've found at Home Depot in the past. Usually with some reinforcement and engineering they work. But I don't see the lids at Home Depot any more…I'm sure they are online someplace.

I'm using a small moultrie motor and timer that uses 4 AA batteries.

These are more for attracting pigs to a specific spot to help with trapping than feeding deer for hunting or nutrition purposes.

I'm curious, what do y'all use for a quick and cheap feeder setup?

I too had a problem with the lids of the 5 gallon cans disappearing. I picked up a couple of the Behrens 10 gallon trash cans. The handle locks the lid on so its secure. They have been going strong for 3 or four years.

What you need are some empty chlorine tablet buckets. Very sturdy with locking screw on lids. Find a friend with a pool and see if he has any.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Have you thought about pig pipes?

Great idea. I buy the smaller buckets but those are heavy duty. Not sure what it takes to clean them out, but I can figure that out I'm sure.

As for the pig pipes, that might actually work in the traps. In the pasture, our cows would mess those up.

Water will get rid of the chlorine.

I have stacks of those plastic chlorine buckets. My grandfather always told to never throw away a good bucket.

However, squirrels and rats have no problem chewing holes in them.
