I'm in SC for work and walked into one…they have a great selection of firearms and an even better selection of knives. Just a heads up if anyone is traveling or lives close to one. Spent nearly an hour looking at knives and ended up leaving with a bench made bug out.

I think basspro/cabelas just bought them last year.

Can also order firearms online, if in stock at their warehouse, for delivery to your local Sportsmans. Always received within 2 weeks.

When they closed the Sportmans warehouse in San Antonio they were practically giving things away. I was broke back then so I didnt score anything but my BIIL grabbed a nice Browning .270 for about 50% off.

i loved oshmans too. They always seemed to be built in a basement. You had to take an escalator down. They had the track around the store and stuff set up you could play. Golf simulator, putting green, basketball hoops, etc.

I used to hit the SW in Round Rock 3-5 times a week, they always had cool stuff, and sometimes good prices on ammo, especially things Academy didn't carry.

I ran into one of the sales guys that worked there a few years after they closed, and the rumor was the reason they closed so many stores was because the owner/CEO was dipping his pen in the company ink and had no pre-nup with the wife, who took him for everything.

It wasn't nicknamed Sportsman's Who-rehouse for nothing

I loved Sportsman Warehouse when I lived in Vegas. It was by far the best option we had out there for store ammo

SW used to be in San Antonio. All locations closed. The manager said that it was a logistics problem and that both stores were in the black financially. I could always find my traditional bow hunting gear there. Not so much for Bass Pro. Had some great buys when they were liquidating.

Only chain sporting goods store I'll go to here in CO, was pretty amazed at the knowledge of some of the gentlemen working the gun counter when asking about powder, back in the days the actually had powder....

well that sucks.

Bought some Simms wading boots there last weekend.

They carry high quality stuff. I put them above all chain stores. Same quality range as Sheels, JAX and so forth.

I thought they all closed down. Haven't see one in a while

Yet is the word that should be stressed here. Because it will happen, just look at Cabela's.

They entered texas in the 2000s and got whipped by Academy.. Texans and Academy Loyalty is real. They went through a bankruptcy, reduced stores back to their core area and reworked things I guess.

Pretty large presence out west and expanding into the east.

This thread reminded me I need to go check out the new Scheel's when I'm in Missoula next week.
