Have a Glock 43x that I use for edc. only put a couple hundred rounds thru it so far (had it less than a year, ammo has been a ***** to find) but just not thrilled with the stock sights. I'm also not completely sold on red dots. Any recommendations?

I'm considering trying the Deltapoint Micro on my 43x. Currently using Tritium that I installed and prefer them to the stock ones.

I've got the vortex venom red dot on my 1911. It's not bad, but I don't have any iron sights on it either.

I typically would always recommend a red dot for carry, but with the price of ammo, it is hard to get out and practice. They give me quick and accurate target acquisition in both light and dark settings. A good set of tritium sights is definitely an upgrade. I have a personal preference of a U cut tritium rear sight but that is going to be what you are better with.

Speaking of red dots, this is a dumb question, but where do you "view" the dot? Do you co-witness it with iron sights? Place it in the middle of the lens?

If you don't have suppressor height sights, you are not going to get a co witness. You set the dot to your POE. That's the only draw back of a red dot on a carry gun. I replace my battery every time change to prevent myself from running into an issue with a dead battery.

On a similar question.

Is there a recommendation for somewhere to purchase a new slide for a G19 gen4 that is already cut for a red dot? I've been thinking about picking up a red dot for the pistol, but don't care to have to send in my slide to get it milled.

Brownell's if you want a stock slide. If you want something with cuts and serrations, I used indie guns, dealt with the owner, cerakote in a multiple colors if desired. Higher end would be the Zev, zafirri precision type shops.

If you just want to replace your stock sights, I always recommend Dawson Precision sights. They come with the punch and front sight wrench you need, and all you'll really need is a file to fit the sight (NOT your slide dovetail), a hammer, and a way to hold the slide.

Dawson Glock Sets

Every Glock I've ever owned, whether for competition, carry, or defensive, has had a set of Dawson sights on it.

Get a red dot. can't go wrong with a RMR or Holosun 507/508 for EDC.

Dot far more intuitive. One object for aiming versus two (front and rear sight). After some practice you'll be far more accurate beyond 10 yards and faster.

I use Dawson front sights as my 1/3 co witness with my red dots nowadays. Love them.

Before I switched to red dots I used ameriglo I-dots with tritium on all my EDCs. Intuitive acquisition for close range quick pistol shooting / acquisition.

I love the Ameriglo Bold sights. Glock installs them at the factory on many guns they sell. You pay a little more, and they come new with those sights already installed. I own several guns with them.

You can buy them yourself.

I've tried various other sights, but these are my favorite.

FYI - Champion will install the sights for you (only on a Glock) for about $15.

I have a 43X with Glock factory night sights, and they're pretty good. I have the Ameriglo's on another gun, and I like them even better.

Take this for what it's worth (not much): the 43X is a very short-barrelled gun, meant for close-in gun fighting. You don't need a red dot sight for that range, just a front sight you can practice to acquire very easily as you go for a center mass shot.

It's your money, and you can hang all kinds of stuff off a gun if you want... lights, lasers, red dots; but what do you use that gun for... range gun, carry gun, competition, safe queen? My 43X is my carry gun, and it was good straight out of the box. I added the night sights to help with low-level light target acquisition... but I do that with all of my guns.

YMMV.

While super common on 1911s, I can't say I've ever had to file a Glock rear sight. Is Dawson specifically selling oversized sights? I just throw Glock sights in my sight pusher and they slide right in.

I typically only run Ameriglo or TrijiconHD

I'm a huge fan of my 43x. But I've noticed it shoots a little left. Not so left that I would be concerned if the need arises to use it, but it's left. But current sights on it are those white tipped front and rear sights. Not terrible, but just not my favorite after plinking around with it. I use it for EDC and then my 1911 as my truck and ranch gun

The last time I bought Dawson sights, yes, he was oversizing them on purpose. He used to have a video showing the proper installation process for them and demonstrated how to file them correctly. That may have changed, as it has been a couple of years since I did a swap?

I'd also suggest the S15 mag and mag release for your 43x. 15rd mags in that little gun is awesome.

Disagree, a red dot is still an advantage even at closer ranges.

This is a good place to start reading: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/files-156/Miniaturized20Red20Dot20Systems20for20Duty20Handgun20Use2028129.pdf

I don't have the same level of experience as the guy who wrote that but having used irons and red dots in classes (including fof and low light) and in competition, my limited samples mirror his findings.

To the OPs question, I have Defoor sights on my 43 and 43x and like them.

I went back and forth on this same issue for a very long time on whether to buy a new slide, get it milled, or just buy a Gen 5 and use the G19 Gen 4 as a backup. I ended up sending the slide off to get milled and I am very happy I finally did it. It took about 6 weeks. I also have a G20 (10 mm) and sent that slide in at the same time and that is my favorite gun.

Any Glock I buy in the future will be the MOS version unless there is a specific reason I don't need it for that particular gun. Last year I bought a G45 with the MOS and it is worth the extra money.

I don't know anything about the quality of the slides already precut but Brownells, Primary Arms, Bud's Gun Shop all seemed to have them. Availability was nil during the pandemic but appeared to be getting better.

I have one of the brownells slides. Been good so far.

I have a really cheap Aimsurplus blemished slide sitting on my P80 that has been fine so far. Not a whole lot of rounds through it. The challenge with aftermarket slides is they can be larger than a stock Glock slide which impacts the ability to use off the shelf holsters
