He was foaming at the mouth and couldn't open his eyes so I took him inside for emergency cleaning.

After trying to wash it off for a min - the skunk smell started to appear and now the house smells of skunk.

How do you de-skunk your house? Driving to tractor supply right now to get some cleaner. Any advice would help.

just went though this about a month ago and i am afraid you messed up when you brought him inside. i didnt let them into the house, just the laundry room but it reeked for about 2 weeks no matter how many times I reebreezed the walls and floor.

Our dog has been hit by a few skunks and we did this on the first one by accident.

Thankfully the weather had cooled off so we just had to open every window in the house and wash everything she came in contact with (sheets, etc.). Not sure where you live but if you can open windows up today I'd highly recommend it.

Oof. I feel you. One of ours got hit and before we realized it, she ran inside and started rolling around on the dining room rug to try and get it off.

We would up using a mix of peroxide, Dawn, and baking soda to get the smell off of her. Took multiple baths over several days to get it all off. The rug was toast. Our house stunk for what seemed like weeks. I was worried that my clothes smelled like skunk - kept asking my coworkers if I stunk.

I once heard that boiling vinegar helps. What I found was that it helps with making your house smell like skunk and vinegar. Not a great combo.

About two months ago, our dog found out the hard way what the white and black critters do. Was pretty funny to watch her bolt to the pond and thrash her face around in the water. We used hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Was good enough to knock the smell back to not hurt our house when we got home. But that smell stayed on her face for about 2 months.

My dog found a skunk 2 weekends ago and learned the hard way it was not friendly.

Like others had mentioned it was suggested to use the dawn + baking soda + hydrogen peroxide but only had blue dawn at the house. I gave him a double bath 2 days in a row with the dawn. It definately made him more comfortable and you could really only smell it if you put nose right on him.

My wife, our 4 month old, and both of our dogs got sprayed earlier this week. There were all kinds of indications she should have picked up on as to why letting the dogs out and hour and a half before they typically start stirring when the weim was growling at the screen door, but that's another story.

It definitely helps that we're just getting over Covid and sense of smell isn't fully back.

That hydrogen peroxide+Dawn+baking soda worked great on all affected parties, but we haven't been able to get the smell out of the house. It's really strong when you open the door, but dissipates quickly.

reminds me of a family reunion where a skunk was crossing the field in broad daylight and all the men ran for their trucks to get their guns and the women all pitched a fit........"can we have one family function that doesnt involve shooting something?!?!" welp that night the dogs got sprayed and once word got out the women didnt hang around the farm long b/c they new papo was going to make them give the baths

Scent killer. Spray your dog. Spray her again. It will beat back the odor.

The baking soda-blue dawn-peroxide combo works very well, better than the deskunk shampoo you can buy. We have 3 male dogs that have had several run-ins with skunks over the last 6 weeks (and I live in a residential neighborhood). The other night we saw 2 skunks on our video camera so there is a problem.

It does seem like the smell in the house did go away after a couple of weeks. Just wash what you can.

I now own a pellet gun and a Glock 44 with subsonic 22 ammo. I ordered a suppressor (Deadair Mask) when this first started so I'm guessing I still have 6 months or so on it but in the meantime I can use my Gemtech Lunar 45. It's just louder than a 22 suppressor would be. Wife wants to look into getting them trapped/removed. We'll see what happens.

Bathing a dog in the middle of the night sucks, as does breathing in that smell. You may have to give the dog a second bath.

Open all of your window and go hunting or fishing for a week. It might not help but you'll have a great time!

Get an inexpensive ozone generator. They really work. On your house or car, not the dog.

I got a $50 one from Amazon. Removes musty or moldy (skunky) smells

Ozone machine. I've fortunately have never had to try it for skunk, but it's what hotels use to remove smoke and other odors from rooms. Powerful stuff. Don't occupy the affected rooms/house while the machine is running.

I have a friend that had a skunk either die or lose control under his house in the crawl space. Whole house stunk, put the ozone generator under there and let it run for a while. Worked like a charm.

It would be a very good idea to put the ozone generator on a timer and go somewhere else for a while. Ozone is VERY reactive with your airway tissues. A little exposure can trigger asthma attacks and long term exposure can actually cause lung damage.

Nature's miracle is a staple in our house. Works instantly and completely.

Except the peroxide will bleach fabrics if you don't dilute it quick.

But it won't smell like skunk anymore…..

We have a Plott Hound that gets skunked at least twice a year. We use Thornell Skunk-Off Pet Shampoo. It does a good job of dialing the odor down on him. As for the house, we don't have carpets, thankfully, so it's mostly leaving the windows open for days.

I even bought a fancy 3M mask that's rated for vapors like those from paint guns to wear when he gets uber skunked while bathing him.

When this happens to our dogs, we bathe them in a mix of baking soda and dawn, use whatever beer is on sale instead of water. wash, rinse, lather up again and let sit for 20 - 30 minutes, then rinse again.

For smell in the house, bowls of vinegar placed around the house help. But opening windows to air it out is best.

My brother in law's veterinarian told him to use Summer's Eve ******, coat the dogs completely with it, let it sit for 5 minutes then rinse them off. He said it worked like a miracle.
He is a 70 year old white guy. He said the only problem was when purchasing it at the Temple WalMart the cashier gal gave him a dirty look.

Fast forward to a year later when both of my dogs got skunked outside of Briggs Texas. I went to the Lampasas HEB and bought 4 bottles of Summer's Eve ****** and the young man at the check out just asked, "your dog get skunked?'

City folk versus country folk.

By the way, it worked like a miracle.
