i just had a new in box savage axis given to me. any thoughts on the model. ways to improve etc

I would suggest either a Schmidt and Bender or Swarovski glass be the first and most important upgrade.........

If no accutrigger, get a timney or rifle basix. Put it in a Boyd's stock.

6.5 CM's are terrible, and will just bounce off of deer, or really anything you shoot it at except paper. I can pick this thing up and dispose of it for you.

Hard to answer this seriously but I'll play along:

1) No - it is a phenomenal round with very little recoil and very predictable performance. It is a perfect round for animals in Texas much like a .243/.308/.270

2) I think the number being given away is a reflection of their popularity. People all want or have or at least know about the 6.5 Creedmoor. (Insert "So hot right now" gif)

3) it is probably the most polarizing round I have ever seen. Either you love it and can't stop telling people about it (like your Traeger or Cross-fit routine ) or it is the most hipster, stupid round available and is worse than seltzer's.

Your call on which team you want to be on. Have I mentioned I have a 6.5 Creedmoor? (Seriously)

The Savage Axis is a bargain gun. Most as far as I know are lacking the accutrigger. That to me would be it's Achilles heel. The accutrigger would upgrade it accuracy wise the most.

Trigger and stock will be the best ways to improve upon that rifle. The 6.5CM is a very capable round, it looks s capable of killing many different types of game just as much as it's capable of wounding them. As I emphasize to all hunters no matter the caliber shot placement and bullet selection are key! In most circumstances I would not go hunting with a match bullet (head shots excluded). Hunters taking match bullets into the field is a leading cause for wounded and un-recovered game.

It seems like a lot of people are using match ammo and that is driving a lot of the "bleed-more" moniker.

I have never had an issue with 143gr ELD-Xs. Kills everything I have shot in its tracks. Just my experience though

Yep match ammo leads for the most part leads to the bleed-moor cracks about it. Bullets like the ELD-X make great hinting rounds and create catastrophic wound channels. I like my handloaded 130gr Barnes TSX pushing right at 2900fps.

2: No, its what the local gun store donated because they have an overflux of them.
D: Market is saturated with them. They are a dancing chicken cranked up by the industry to sell more rifles/ammo, just like the WSM's were and the Super-Duper Stomper Magnum Extravaganzas that you HAD to have to be a successful deer hunter. Because there is only so many ways to market a .270Win or a 30-06.

This was the honest answer I was expecting. That has been my perception. It's marketing wank that gets conversation started and creates more wang measuring. There are true measurable advantages to the round, but a large group of people probably don't have a real world scenario or even the skill to see that difference.

That being said, did I tell y'all I have two 6.5 creeds? I'll definitely be keeping and using them. Tell me the best I can get for each.

One is a Rem 700, the other is a Savage. Really want to get the Magpul stock for the Rem.

Same here. I bought one a few years ago just because I wanted a new rifle. The low recoil is nice. Mine also likes the Hornady Outfitter copper rounds.

I don't have a Savage, but everything I've read is that the Axis II with the improved trigger makes is a better shooter.

I have a Bergara 6.5 and like it. Just use hunting rounds when hunting. The Hornady whitetail loads worked great last year.

thinking about replacing my 7mm mag Sako next year with this 6.5 creed with a timney trigger. i'm a long time 25-06 fanatic. killed tons of animals with it shoot deer every also with 223 and 22 hornet with head shots
