Anybody use an owb holster that is secured with a clip as opposed to belt loops?

If so, how do you like it? Thoughts?

I have a Kydex holster with two clips for OWB. It's definitely not as secure as belt loops but it's easier to put on and take off. Also have it with a paddle, but for me it's uncomfortable.

I have one. Kydex made by We The People holsters. I really like it.

When you say, "definitely not as secure" what do you mean exactly?

I'm considering one of these because they seem to be a lot quicker on and off, but after all they are holding a gun. I'll sacrifice a little comfort for security. Surely there is no risk of them popping off your waist?

Thanks. Pretty comfortable? Any problems with it being loose or insecure?

I have DeSantis that I like quite a bit.

I would never see mine coming off. When I said not secure, I should have been more descriptive. A belt loop is attached at both top and bottom where a clip is only attached at the top. With just one place on top securing the clip, it allows the bottom to float which can cause the holster to move away from your body. The clip design on mine has a heavy latch on the bottom to grab my belt, but the only thing keeping it stable is the rigidity of the actual clip.

Gotcha, thanks.

I wonder if a paddle clip like the We The People style mentioned above may be more sturdy and less likely to move?

Alien Gear Shape Shift bundle is the answer. Get all the options.

All of my OWB holsters have speed ease clips. I get my holsters from Tactical Measure. I've never had one come unattached from my belt either at the range, in training, or in real life. I love the clips.

It's as secure as your belt and how tight you wear your belt. I have a regular leather belt and a 5.11 belt that I wear on the regular. It's more secure on the 5.11 belt because it's stiffer plus it's tightness is adjustable because it's Velcro where the leather belt is adjustable every 1/2" or so with the holes.

Just checked these out. Those are pretty cool. The OWB paddle holster is exactly what I was thinking of.

Anyone else have experience with the Alien Gear Shapeshifter system?

You've peaked my interest...

True, but I guess the design of the clip also comes into play.

Some of the reviews of the WTP Holsters have taken issue with the sturdiness of the clip. Seems to have a bit of play in it.

Have you looked at/considered a paddle holster?
I have a few made by Comp Tac for my pistols (Springfield, Glock). Do a good job of holding the pistol.

Comp Tac paddle holster

In the end I prefer a leather holster using a good belt to carry.

I have that setup, but haven't carried a lot with it. It is very modular and easy to setup for whichever way you want to carry. Comfortable for the few times I have carried with it.

My favorites uses snap loops, or blade tech snap on loops.

I've never had good luck with clips.

I've had a couple from Bravo Concealment for awhile. Started with just the beltloop attachments and eventually picked up the clips, and never had an issue. Yes it'll be different than a beltloop holster, but it shouldnt make a huge difference with a proper carry belt on and snug.

.

I have one for an MP Shield that I need to sell. I bought it and while waiting for it I went ahead and got a TLR6 for it. Which made it incompatible with the shell obviously.

So, if you happen to have a Shield and be in the market....

I had "speed clips" on my OWB and found them too insecure for anything other than the lightest use. I switched them to belt loops and am happy with their security, but running my belt through them is a pain. But it's worth the tradeoff.

My newest holster may have what you want, a secure, but clip on option. It is not svelte, however.

The belt clip is called a Blade Tech TEK-LOC and it is secure. The guy who made it for me* said "It will take an act of Congress to get this thing off your belt" and he was right.

I'll try to post some pics.

"Speed Clips" which I removed for full loops. Not very secure:

TEK-LOK. Very secure. You can have them made without the drop / standoff and they will ride closer to the body I am told:

I don't have the Aliengear shapeshift, but I do have the Cloak Mod paddle holster from them and really like it. I have had a couple of other paddle holsters and this one seems easier to put on and take off, more secure while it is on, and seems to ride closer to the body then some others. I also like that you can just buy additional shells for different guns and swap the shell on the holster.

Seems like a lot of folks are happy with their paddle holsters.

How do you guys find them for concealment purposes? The one thing that hangs me up a little bit about them is that they seem to stick out a bit further from your hip than say a belt holster with speed clips.

Any opinions on this?

Also looking at the ANR Designs speed clip holster for reference. Great reviews.

If I were wanting to conceal carry OWB, then I'd just use my versa carry. Slimmest and most comfortable for me OWB.

I wouldn't try to conceal my paddle holster.

Stealth Gear OWB Flex is my go-to holster for my G26 and G19. I've used them for years. The clips are rock solid on a rigger's belt or my everyday carry belt from Versacarry. This is what I use to carry 99% of the time. I will go IWB with a Comptac if I need a little more concealment.
