Wife and I bought some land recently to for cattle and to get the kids out in the woods. For the first few months I was seeing lots of deer, hogs, and starting to see turkeys. About two months ago a dog showed up on my game camera. He had a collar, so I wasn't too concerned about him, thinking he probably just belonged to a neighbor. He hasn't been back, but over the past few weeks I've counted at least four additional dogs on camera (three of them obviously littermates; look identical and in a pack) roaming our land around feeders. No collars on any of them. I'm thinking they are feral or strays. Additionally, wildlife has vanished from my game camera. Is there someone I can call to have them removed?

This past week when I was out there, I came across a wild hog, recently killed, and half eaten. Could they have taken down a 125 pound pig? Just thinking about what they could do to calfs or one of the kids. Thought the great OB would have some suggestions.

They definitely have yellow lab in them. But their tails curl and one looks more muscular than most yellow labs I've seen. Barrel chested and thin in the hips.

I have some pictures of them on my phone. I'll see if I can post them.

Maybe somebody is running dogs on your place and your half eaten hog is just the chewed on remains of a poachers cut.

Eta scratch all that above. Pics posted after I wrote that and those aren't hog dogs.

Yeah, that was my first thought when I saw the first dog that hasn't been back, but these aren't your typical hog dogs.

These are livestock guardian dogs, the three that look the same. They are either full Great Pyrenees or half Great Pyrenees/half Anatolian. Do you have any neighbors that you know of with sheep and goats? Would start there first.

this.

First picture looks like an Anatolian, others all look like Pyr mixes or full blood Pyrs.

Someones guard dogs are roaming.

On the bright side, you won't have a coyote predation problem with that crew of Pyrs around.

Time to talk to your neighbors. Had two like it on our property three years ago. Turned into a mess. We were leasing our property to a guy who ran a cow calf operation. One day our neighbor's black mouth cure on the west side came onto our pasture and was trying to get at a new born calf that belonged to the guy leasing our place. Our neighbor on the east side took it upon himself to shoot the dog with his 17hmr. I rolled up to the place the next day and my neighbor met me at the gate asking if I had seen his dog. We went looking and the whole thing unraveled. Literally four parties involved. Not a great weekend.

Or a deer or turkey problem apparently.

Wow! Yeah don't feel like dealing with that kind of mess. What ended up happening, long story short?

No sheep or goats that I'm aware of. Cattle to the place north of us for sure. South is high fenced. No livestock to the west or east either.

How far?

Pyrs can roam miles if they're bored or not doing their job.

Distance? Not sure on that one, but I know there are sheep in the area because I have seen them. I just don't recall how far away.

Definitely stock dogs, and the Pyrs and Anatolians will wander to track down coyotes at times if their stock is put up.

I disagree. I'm having this same exact problem on my lease in Cooke County. I witnessed these same type of dogs chasing deer one morning. Next morning the dogs barked a good ways off and all my deer immediately gtfo. Heard them bay something up down in the creek bottom and later found a dead yearling buck down in the creek. Then my landowner found two dead calves. I didn't witness any of the kills but I did witness twice them pack hunting, physically chasing deer and then we find dead animals.

They definitely don't. Not even sure how that's plausible.

You have three options:

1) "take care of them" and don't post anymore on here
2) try to find the owners off of google earth or by driving around and let them know
3) replace your perimeter fence with a field fence to keep them out

Rouge dogs are common on rural property. Some problems you just have to handle on your own. The more attention, the (not) better.

Yes, I understand. I'm not an expert in IDing dogs. Looked similar to a yellow lab to me so I thought possibly yellow lab mix. Now that I know what they are I plan to try to locate the owners.

Those LGDs are in good shape so either they are traveling back to their home pasture to eat out of self feeders, or they are living off the land. Maybe both. They can and will kill 125 lb hogs, especially in a pack. My best Anatolian could do it alone, but then he weighed 140lbs. Never had much problem with them killing or even chasing deer, but that is not an absolute. Be damn careful and armed if you approach them in your pasture. The best ones are not pets in any shape form or fashion and they are independent thinkers. Don't crowd them or give them an opportunity to think your presence is a danger. I had to shoot two when they decided to seriously challenge my being Alpha. Having said all that, somewhere within 3-5 miles there is a sheep or goat rancher who is sick about those good looking animals going AWOL Once they start running it is hard to break them of it. See if you can find him through the county agent as I am sure he'd love to know where the hell his dogs are.

Great advice. This is my intention. I'm a dog guy.

They will kill babies and deer yearlings. Friends Pyrenees has killed a couple of deer on its own. We saw him take down a baby deer. We had to hit the dog in the head multiple times to let go. Do scared off most of the wildlife around the house. When we hunt we have to pen him up or he will find us even at the farthest feeder miles away

I'd second the note about not approaching them unless your armed.

Those dogs are out in pastures to protect stock from
Most any dangers, and they barely like the people who put them out there, at least in my experience.

As a pyr owner, I can say those pyrs are getting groomed on a regular basis. Those photos don't show any of the dogs with any matting at all and the tails are clean with no tangles.

Hate to tell you to "take care of them" but that is often necessary. I've had more than one government hunter tell me that coyotes, "Mt. Lions" and "Wolves" get blamed a lot for what someones dog is doing. They all said the same thing about the dog owners too, "my dogs never leave this house".......

Add to that the amount of people from the city that take their dogs out to a county road and dump them, and you can have a serious pack of dogs in a short amount of time. I saw over a dozen once on a friends deer lease.

So...the reality is, SSS.
And you might want to do it sooner than later. Spring/summer will be here before you know it and all the stuff that you actually want to be there will be having babies.

Have you called him/her?

We had a rouge GP on our place. FIL kept blaming coyotes for the limited deer we were seeing. One morning I SSS the dang thing and the deer began to appear again... it's the dogs

Literally nothing. Guy was mad but understood. That's what happen when your dog goes after livestock unfortunately.
