How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sorry as I know this has been covered.

I've researched quite a bit. I think I've narrowed my choices down to the Trijicon MKIII IR-Hunter 35mm vs the REAP-IR 35mm (IRMS-35-2).

Any input on which may be better? They look almost identical on paper. Also, any other high end scopes I should consider? I am ok paying for a quality optic but would obviously love to spend less if possible.

Thanks!

REAP IR is what all my friends have because it's lighter and has a better FOV.

I just got the pulsar trail 2 lrf xp50. I love it. Very hard to find though

Reap is a little more compact and lighter. Some folks prefer the turrets on the IRHunter over the joystick on the reap.

I sell easilly twice as many Pulsar units as I do Trijicon but of you have the budget for Trijicon and don't want the rangefinder on the trail, go Trijicon or Nvision because the wait won't be nearly as long. Im still waiting on Pulsar units to come in that I ordered during SHOT show last year so almost a year on backorder...

You can't go wrong with a Trijicon but if you haven't checked out Nvision, give them a look. Same BAE core Trijicon uses, slightly better firmware, less expensive, and longer warranty.

Biggest piece of advice I can give you is buy from a reputable dealer who will give you after sale support. Finding the guys who violate MAP and sell just above cost is a mistake. Saving 500 on an 8k purchase doesn't do much for you if you need help after the sale and can't get it.

I've been thinking of selling my 35 reap ir. Reason is to swap to the 60.

Brand new. Purchased September 2020.

Have not sent in warranty card info or registration yet.

One outing to zero

One extermination outing.

Pm me if interested. It will be worth your while to pm for the price. Purchased from eurooptic, and they made a smoking deal back then.

Skelso,

I didn't know that you were a dealer. Have any in stock?

FunkyKO, what are you thinking price wise? Why are you selling?

Swap to the 60.

Have a new place to eradicate. This place is a lot more wide open than the 35 likes.

The way I figure if I can pass the deal I got off to someone else. Everyone wins.

If not, I'm still good with the 35.

What does it say that you need sales support after the purchase? I mean if I'm dropping thousands of dollars I expect the **** to work. Trying to say you need post purchase support raises major red flags.

Its not just about repair support,, although thermal scopes are electronics. Sometime **** happens and they break down. There's not a week that goes by that I don't get calls and texts in the middle of the night "hey, Im on a hog hunt with buddies and can't figure out how to...." I do my bust to answer those as they come in because the next business day, the hunt is long over...

As far as your argument about cost vs reliability, how much is your vehicle worth? Ever had to take it in for maintenance or repair?

I dont keep the trijicon and Nvision units in stock due to cost vs sales volume - i dont want to sit on that much inventory, especially at the end of the year.

That said, I cannusually get Trijicon units from the factory in a few days. Shoot me an email. I'll check inventory levels and get back to you Monday.

Check out Funky's deal. If he bought during the sale I think he did, the cost was damn close to wholesale. Euro closed out their type 1 scopes and ran type 2 on sale. Dont know if his is type 1 or 2 but don't be afraid to buy a type 1 that new. They are solid scopes and you likely wouldn't miss the differences if you've never had them.

I rarely have to take my vehicle in. Wife has a civic with 190k and I have a 4Runner with 140k. Routine maintenance is it.

I'd think a thermal scope is more like a computer or high end electronic. It should work when you buy it. I'm not talking about user error here having to call you for help. I was thinking about problems with it actually working....so we probably agree on buying from a reliable store.

Since this is a thermal thread. Is anyone using the Hogster C? If so do you like it?

How is Trijicon's reliability?

Great but like any electronic device, they occasionally have issues. Their customer service takes care of issues quickly.

Hogster is a great entry / mid level scope. I often compare its function to the now discontinued Pulsar Apex.

Got the hogster 35mm r. Only zeroed and have yet to exterminate. So far so good. Really compact but the 3 button control takes getting used to.

Get on the Facebook group " Night Vision and Thermal Hunting Videos". About 40,000 enthusiasts discussing this stuff continuously. Look for repetitive comments to get a pulse on what's the best stuff out there. You'll be brought up to speed very quickly. FWIW: The Super Hogster (there are several companies like Fusion, Liemke, and IRay that brand nearly the same thermal as the Bering - all with China guts) is a common winner for mid-range thermals. The IRay RICO (MK1 or the upcoming Alpha) are as good as it gets. ATN's Thor is not much cheaper than the Hogster and far less quality. Trijicon and Pulsar have lost ground lately as the former champions. The guys at Ultimate Night Vision (in Dallas and makers of the IRay) have an insanely good service guarantee. Nice folks too and check out their hog hunt YouTube/Facebook videos. They are hard core.

Atn is garbage. Ass for CS Support. Nvisions new upgrades have surpassed Trijicon on image. New King of the hill. China internals is the only way to keep them affordable. With increases in competition, prices have fallen some on the prior premium brands.
