How long do you want to ignore this user?
Is anyone knowledgeable and experienced with the Snipe Hog Lights? I have a couple of questions. I am possibly looking at the Coyote Cannon model with one of the lights to reach out to 320 yards -- the distance to my feeder from the camp. I do not have a lighted reticle on my scope and need something to light up the mostly black hogs at night. However, I am also considering getting a night vison scope and will need a good IR illuminator for that. So, looking for a dual purpose item. Thus my questions:

1. Will the Coyote Cannon light up a hog at 320 yards? Also, what color beam is best for hogs?
2. What color beam is best for predators?
3. Will I be able to switch out the beam module for an IR module and use that on a night vision scope?

Thanks for any input,

I have their headlamp and it is great! I'm not sure exactly how far it shines, but it is really far. In mine, you can unscrew the diode in about 10 seconds and replace it with another color or the IR illuminator. Hope this helps

look into the wicked lights. You can get a 3 in one light and it can reach out there with a focused beam. If youre planning to shoot 320 yards at night good luck. If you get a NV scope look at the Sightmark wraith 4k as it can do both day and night. Green light is brighter than red... IR comes in two spectrums.. 850 and 940. 940 reaches further but has a larger glow to it than the 850. I have both night vision and thermal setups and I can tell you if you choose to go with a regular scope with a light, get a lit reticle scope. Its going to take some time getting used to night shooting. Its much much different than you realize but its really fun. Good luck!

IR comes in two spectrums.. 850 and 940. Correct

940 reaches further but has a larger glow to it than the 850. Wrong, you got them backwards

Check out their website they give illumination distances for each of their products.

I have the headlamp with green white and IR 850 wavelength modules and their 50LRX flashlight with the green and 940 wavelength IR module. If I was buying again I would skip the white and IR modules for the headlamp, the green does a great job. I put the flashlight on a digital pard scope from eyeguy with the IR module as an illuminator, it approx. doubles the range of the scope over the in scope illuminator (which is 850 wl) The flashlight with the green light reaches further than I would be comfortable shooting at night.

The cannon is supposedly leaps and bounds beyond either light I have, I thought it was overkill but I have never seen or used one.

I will look into the wicked lights, thanks. The sniper hog lights have been highly recommend, I just want to make sure they will do what I want.

I have a feeder at 320 yards that has motion lights and have shot several hogs at that range already but it's still difficult to pick them up in a scope without a lighted reticle. They have to be positioned in the lights just right. I have missed several opportunities because I could not get a good sight picture. I have a nightforce with lighted reticle but not on the several rifles that I prefer to use in this situation. I am looking into the wraith 4K, but not for 320 yard shots. Will stick with my Leupold Mark 4 scopes for that.

Thanks, I have looked at their website but would like some real world experience before I invest that much.

The lights I have live up to their billing.

Don't waste time, effort and money, go ahead and buy a thermal. Even the lower class of thermals are better than using lights. You can get into a good Pulsar thermal for ~$2000ish and a very good Pulsar thermal for ~$3500ish. If you are not a heavy regular user these are very good thermals for the price. FLIR and ATN makes good average use thermals as well.

I use thermals for hunting often, so I have moved up the ladder over the years. The higher end names are EoTech and Halo, but these start in the ~$5-10k amounts. There is a big difference in thermal technology, options and durability, so yes you get what you pay for.

Lights are for us lolpoors.

Lights don't bother pigs or coyotes at all.

I have seen lights set up at 75 yards and pigs are always there.

Hard to justify $2 to 3.5K thermals for couple dozen shots a year, when I could be in business with a good light for $150-200. The $1K night vision would for those few times that I might want to venture out for the occasion critter.

I have a friend from my childhood days that is a pulsar dealer if anyone needs a thermal. Check out Medio Creek Thermals on FB. Good guy who used to be on the rodeo circuit. Has good cuttin horses too!
