I am wanting to get some for my brother for Christmas for deer hunting. Specifically a jacket.

There was a thread a little while ago that proved camo is pointless/dumb/etc.
Does he hunt from a blind, does he do any other kind of hunting, does the jacket need to be waterproof or match a certain terrain. When in doubt the trusty carhartt jacket works well, i have many many different brands of camo and each is really for a different type of hunting. just remember stand hunting really doesnt require much camo at all if any.

Will be used mostly for bow hunting. Close proximity, in a ground blind or open tripod.
What kind of hunting does he do? A nice puffy or something may be much better for his type of hunting vs just getting something in camo
I'm not sure it proved anything, but it was definitely an avenue for lots of venting and posturing.jmazz said:

And OP, I'm a big fan of First Lite's Fusion pattern.
I also really like the look of their new Specter pattern, which is probably more suited to whitetail hunting, but don't have anything in it yet.

For bow hunting/close may check out Cabela's wooltimate hoody. Super quiet and very warm, it's just bulky if he's going to be hiking long distance
So if he is going to be bow hunting he will want to be mobile and so he can easily draw, i am a big fan of the kuiu camo especially the valo pattern. i have one of the Peloton 240 full zip hoodies, its basically a mid weight wind proof jacket that is fleece lined. you also may want to give some of the Cabela's MTO50 a look, that is good lined rain gear that is great mid weight or outer layer gear
If you do end up looking at First Lite, their Uncompahgre puffy is the best jacket I have ever owned. They now have the 2.0 version out and I'd really like to upgrade my older model.

Depends on how much you love him. Sitka or Firstlite are my faves.
Anything less than Sitka means you hate him!
But seriously, for bow hunting make sure it is nothing loud. Be careful on the fabric otherwise you'll blow out deer every time you try and draw back.
Also note that if you do go with a brand like Kuiu or Sitka and possibly first lite (not sure here), they tend to run small. If he's a L he'll need an XL. Usually one size up is sufficient.

First Lite
I prefer Kuiu, just have to remember to always buy a size bigger than you do normally. Had issues with Sitka a few years back, so went to another brand.
I wear that damn thing everywhere... It's perfect for layering under a bigger coat too or rain jacket.
Love my first lite stuff, though I don't see enough difference between their camo offerings to make a difference. I'd like them to offer something much lighter in overall color, more the color of grass like the old Cabela's western camo. Also wish they'd have kept the ASAT camo, which is ugly from a human "fashion" perspective but great for actual camo for hunting.
I've looked at these for years. You have any experience wearing it around mesquite, pear, or tocajillo? I don't think it would last a weekend around heavy mesquite. Seems like you'd have to wear an outer cover garment to keep it from getting ripped to shreds.AgEng06 said:

I have worn it a few times in Arizona around some stuff like that, but I'm pretty careful to not get it hung up. I would agree it probably won't last long in that environment if you're not careful (although I don't think any puffy will).
I'm a fan of the ERDL BDU pattern.
I've worn mine around all those plants & yes it will get snagged. Throw a Carhartt or something thorn resistant over the top on the way to the bow stand, then when you get set up remove the noisy coat.
I always like shadow grass. More as a fashion statement than concealment.
If I were your brother, I'd love to get a Sitka Stratus jacket.

Black...seriously. I wear nothing but black bow hunting in Kansas. No blinds where I hunt, but nothing would be better in a blind then black. YMMV.
