I am looking at some Controlled Chaos 115 Grain 300 BLK from Lehigh Defense. Any of yall use this for hunting? Results look interesting.

My concern with those loads has always been sectional density. 115 is already light for the caliber, it's not made with a lead core, and the wide petal shedding expansion could all combine for poor penetration. For a perfect behind the shoulder shot, Im sure they'll do fine. Dont know if I'd want to go through the shoulder on a mature buck.

Yeah. It's not for my deer rifle. More for my night rig for varmints and pigs

I have killed quite a few animals with the Hornady Subsonic ammo. Only had one ram run off a little. The rest were dropped pretty quick. All under 100 yards. I have been impressed.

IIRC, Bill Wilson worked up some of these for his 300 HAM'R pig rig. I'll see if I can find where he discussed the results.

That would be awesome. The gel test looks great

Its good... I like the Barnes 110 gr or 120 gr better but its still good for sure.

Here's the link, it's long but has some good video and some good insight from Bill, although it's specific to the ham'r cartridge. I didn't have the life force to cull through all 47 pages for the specific mention of the Lehigh bullet.

Great for hogs. They run off but still die quickly.

Poor choice for deer as they invariably lead to a tough tracking job. It's easy to find a better .300 round to kill white tails DRT or within 100 yards.

This is based on actual experience with the round. Very lethal, but not in the way the is desirable for easily recovering whitetail. Harder to track because you won't have an exit wound.

Thanks for the input. This is going strictly for my night hunting rig with Thermal. Not too worried about trailing when I can see a heat signature on the thermal. If i lose a pig or two, its just food for the coyotes and less work for me.

I had previously been using the Hornady 110. But they have been hard to find in a reasonable price. Gorilla had the most reasonably priced on the Barnes 110 but they sold before i could put in my credit card. I just got tired of waiting and went with these. Lehigh may be gimmicky but I will hopefully have 175 dead varmints until I can get the Barnes or Hornady, since I ordered the bucket.

What barrel length on your 300 bcm.

Report back how they work out for you.

I have the thermal on the 308, but really would like to run it on the 9 inch 300 just for lightness.

It is a 9 inch barrel. I also had my thermal on a 308 before this one. Small package makes it nice for where I hunt. Hopefully I get them soon to kill some pigs. They have run off most my deer.

Nothing gimmicky about Lehigh. I use their extreme cavitator 10mm on deer when pistol hunting and they are tough to beat. Applying their controlled chaos and maximum expansion rounds when subsonic just isn't ideal for whitetail, but awesome for hogs and varmints.
Match the tool to the job and you have a winner.

@aggie1819, your setup looks nice. Can you tell us the specific setup (optics shown as well as any other mods)?

I have wanted anything from BCM but hard to find now days. Can you compare your BCM experience with a Daniel or any other higher end setup?

Thanks

Have both, Between the two. Bcm and Daniel.

Barrels are barrels, they're both great. They both Like 62 grain and up. And will shoot 77 gr black hills like they should. Straight.
Triggers from the factory are triggers from the factory.
Daniel pins their gasblocks
Bcm uses setscrew

Whatever bcm uses as loctite is super human. Even with fta bonfire heat. Lesson I have learned. If it's upper from bcm, just leave it alone, you're gonna strip torx bits

The difference between the two, Daniels rails and their lockup system is the more confidence inducing if you are jumping out of planes, throwing it around or abusing the hell out of the gun. Their rail lockup system is better.

Where this comes into play is if you're running laser .

If contemplating the two. Get the Daniel, you'll see what I mean when you are able to hold it in your hands. Or get the Bcm and save some money and weight. Their rifles are a little lighter than the Daniel equivalents.
Or get both

Thanks for the comparison! Curious on the BCM because I seem to get from forums that their quality is usually #1 for complete systems with DD being a close second or so. I thought BCM was usually priced higher, when comparing similar models. I just picked up a DDM4 V7 P (pistol) and am waiting on ammo.

That said, does anyone have preferred ammo makeup/brand for a hog or deer load? I bought Winchester Deer Season XP.

Also, looking a nice subsonic load for hogs below 50 yards? (Combining with a Silencerco Omega 300)

Between my BCM an Daniel Defense, I think the quality is comparable. The BCM is cheaper so more bang for your buck. My Daniel defense is actually lighter than the BCM. It all depends on the model.

This one is a BCM MK2 Standard 9" 300 BLACKOUT Upper Receiver Group w/ MCMR-8 Handguard. I paired it with a Santan Tactical Billet lower, Sb Tactical SBA4 Brace, Geisselle SSP Flat trigger, DBAL -RL and Trijicon Reap-IR. Also have an offset vortex venom red dot since the thermal isn't great for quick close range targets. Suppressor is an old Houston Armory Rattler that I had recored an added dead air Keymo. Will eventually move my Dead Air Wolfman to this one once the key micro adaptor comes back in stock.

The DD was a DDM4V7P

Now that I've slept on it. No...complete system. DD.
