On the way to the kafe klatch this AM about a quarter mile from the house there's a dead one....it's in the middle of the road...and it's stinkin....

The one that frequented my yard met his waterloo on the FM road, directly in front of my gate this week. I contemplated the best way to handle it when I got home that evening but I drove by the house around 3pm and the buzzards had done the heavy lifting for me. As I whizzed by one offered to fly off, but I hugged the opposite lane like someone was changing a tire - "it's okay, buddy, you do you- enjoy the meal".

Nature will handle a lot of it.

Sounds like he was probably crossing the highway late last night and he shoulda looked left and he shoulda looked right.

Our cat took a direct hit from a skunk last night. Think the skunk was up on the back deck getting a drink of water when the cat walked up. He stinks to high heaven.

Bury him in good black dirt for a week. The skunk smell will be gone...but.. Seriously though dirt is the best way to get rid of the smell. Back in the 70's I shot one in the back yard and it made a beeline ( I'm a poor shot) to the back porch and died in the corner. We tried bleach, tomato juice, soap and water. Nothing worked. An old farmer at church told me to dump a wheelbarrow full of dirt on it and leave for a week, scoop it it up and the smell will be gone. He was right. Seems like bacteria in the dirt love to feed on the proteins in the skunk musk. Probably won't work for a live cat though.

Old men are wise. You youngsters remember that.

If the wife decides to go run a few errands, I might try that with the cat. Two problems taken care of at the same time.

Baking soda, peroxide, and a little dish soap works.

That's the recipe my wife will be using to wash the cat.

Then you're gonna need to bury your wife in dirt....or else scrub her down with baking soda, peroxide and soap.

stupidly tried to run one down on the four wheeler the other night while spotlighting. aborted after he sprayed but drove back to the area about an hour later and you could still see all the musk aerosolized with the flood light. was like driving through dense fog with high beams on. guess i always just thought that stuff fell down and the smell emanated from the ground

Dog took a glancing blow to the face about a month ago at 5:00 am. I was still in bed. She stumbled through the doggie door, pushed open the bedroom door and commenced to rubbin her nasty skunk ridden head on every surface before I could get her corralled. We have washed and scrubbed and tried every concoction the internet provided. Still when you first open the bedroom door you get a slight hint of Pepe Le Pew.

We counted dead skunks when we were taking our daughter back and forth to ACU in Abilene. On one trip we counted 80+. Spring time had the most.

I think what I'm seeing is solo juveniles...In my humble opinion it is the "teenagers" leaving home stage and didn't live through it...

The problem is if a black cat somehow gets a white stripe painted on its back, the skunk might fall in love with her. Especially if he's French.

Lol, I remember watching Pepe Le Pew cartoons. Actually our cat is black. I imagine he was looking to pick a fight, bad idea.

Wife survived the bathing of the cat without smelling like a skunk.
