Tired of being limited on how much time I can spend at the range because of the ammo shortage. I have plenty 22lr to send down range so I was thinking of getting the conversion kit for my AR. Are there any issues using one? Suggestions on brand? Worth it?

Just get an M&P 15-22

I picked up a cmmg kit on sale. It does what it says it does. Money well spent.

I got one just so the nieces could get used to using something other than a bolt gun..........they love it (almost as much as me)

I put some cheapo bipod on it and my buddies 5 year old daughter absolutely loved it. We filled up cans with water and just let her blast until she had enough.......aka until we ran out of bullets.

I love my CMMG so much I built a 6" AR pistol with a Trijicon MRO just to house it.

Yes. They have some options but I doubt the pickings are other than slim right now.

Inventory showed they had most of them in stock it looked like.

Cmmg? They are still filling orders but when you go to order they are saying it could take months before it ships. Just FYI. I was looking for a Cmmg 45 banshee about A month ago and came across this.

The cons to using a caliber conversion are only issues depending on you expectations.

The main issue with using a conversion is the twist rate of your 5.56 barrel is not optimal for 22LR. Typical for 22LR is 1 in 15 or 1 in 16. So the precision of the shot group out of your 1 in 7 to 1 in 9 AR barrel will not be nearly as good as with a Ruger 10/22 or M&P 15-22.

The second issue is that shooting a lot of 22LR will really foul up you gas system, so i would highly recommend ending each session with shooting some .223/5.56 to drive full power gas through the system. This swap is not a big deal but a bit of a nuisance at the range.

So all that to say, I do own a conversion kit but it's been collecting dust for years. I personally prefer dedicated rifle for the caliber as the end results are better.

I have the colt tac ops m4 22lr made by Walther that I'm trying to get rid of.

It has been and is awesome but I have the CMMG Banshee on 22lr and 9mm.

Don't need the colt 22lr anymore.

Get a Kriss and be done with it. Add the binary trigger for some real fun. Youll be glad you did
