I am not a novice gun owner, but not an expert in all things gun related by any means. I have always had an interest in learning to build my first AR 15 but I have no idea where to start.

For those of you that have started building your own, how did you get started and what resources would you recommend?

1. Order a rifle kit and stripped lower from PSA.
2. When it arrives, watch YouTube videos on how to assemble.
3. Spend the next year or so figuring out what you like/don't like about the rifle and replace parts accordingly.

And order extra springs and detents. Especially if you have carpet!

Agree on that tool rec. just built my first one myself.

Lots of YouTube videos and having the right tools makes all the difference. I got an "oops kit" but ended up not needing it. Didn't launch any springs or detents across the room!

Its super easy especially with youtube. Having at least mid range tools and a bench vice is nice but not required.

Its not rocket science. There are only a few things you might screw up and they are easy to avoid.

Lots of good info already posted in regards to videos, etc. I would also suggest posting where you are located. Chances are good someone in here lives near you and wouldn't mind helping you build your first one.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I am fairly handy so hopefully with some of the tips here and YouTube I can make a go of it. I am located in Huffman, just northeast of Houston if anyone likes to teach these things.
