Just moved to Corpus about a month ago and don't have a huge network down here. Looking for anyone that knows the ropes on hunting ducks.

I (will) have a boat down here by teal season. I have my own gear, decoys, and I'm an experienced duck hunter. Have hunted Texas prairies for years, but the bay system down here is new to me. It's been a while since I've hunted public consistently. I'm willing to carry my weight and take my boat if anyone that is seasoned in this area is up to hunt a bit this fall.

Feel free to post thoughts and insights, but my emails is: thecatfishta@gmail.com for fastest direct response.

Your best bet is to take your boat out and do some fishing In September and October and look for areas that interest you for duck hunting.

Duck blinds are a dead giveaway as are spoil islands.

I don't consider myself the best or most dedicated duck hunter in the world but I hunt em up in the upper Laguna and kill a few.

Lots of hunts out on the grass flats it's two redheads then head back in.

Thanks, i do plan to do that. I was wading Nighthawk Bay with a buddy 2 weeks ago and it looked like a duck blind trailer park in there.

Assume you can just set up on the spoil islands as well?

Yes you can set up on the spoil islands. Pretty much just have to be whatever distance from any nearby roads. I used to walk in Redfish & Nueces bay & shoot redhead limits easy.

About 5 years ago there was a makeshift duck blind out in the flats on the way to Port A on 361. Theres a church (island Methodist?) towards the bayside and a caliche road directly before or after that'll take you about 100 yards away from the blind. Weekends always was first come first serve, but the weekdays usually was open.

I was fishing in the ULM over the weekend. About half the duck blinds are gone.

Yes you can set up on spoil islands and marshy areas. 1000' from homes/roads.

I like sitting on an upside down bucket in the marshier islands. Less sporty than trying to find a blind, as I've heard stories of folks getting into it with guides and such for using "their" blinds.

Check out shamrock cove area
Nighthawk/PITA as you've seen.
You can go as far down as landcut- less pressure and can be really good.

Thanks all.. I did get my boat and have been fishing ULM getting a good feel of things.

Anyone seeing any Teal? I have seen none down in the bays, but haven't been watching the farmland.

Prior to Harvey there was sort of a makeshift blind in the very NE corner of nueces bay, between the hotel and Portland. During rush hour traffic in the mornings I used to see some guy crouched in there, blowing a call, full deek spread out, 75 yards in the bay, with hundreds of cars zooming by at 80 mph.

I always wondered how covered up he got with ducks.

Sorry, not helpful to the thread, just hadn't thought about that in awhile.

Man there are always tons of ducks (pintails too!) right off of Laguna Shores road near the JFK causeway. You never know !

Two words: Nueces Bay

There is a massive delta and plenty of birds. There are a few hunters, but it is not hard to carve out a place to hunt. Many, many more puddle ducks and teal than "out front" in the bays and Laguna Madre.
