I'm looking to build a general fun/hunting rifle with the occasional ability to shoot out to 500ish yards. In the, not looking to break the bank + in stock category, I've found two BA options, 20in. DMR and 18in. SPR. I'm not familiar with the DMR SPR designations. Is one better than the other for what I want to do?

18" 6.5 Grendel will be just fine out to 500.

DMR and SPR are .mil terms. BA makes good stuff and I have no idea why they'd brand their barrels that way.

DMR: Designated Marksman Rifle
SPR: Special Purpose Receiver/Rifle(depending on who used the term and when).

I agree with Bender. Given that this is for fun and hunting out to 500 yards max, just go with the 18" barrel. If you were wanting to stretch it out, you would want to get the full potential of the round and go with the longer barrel.

I have their 18" Grendel barrel and it does good out to 500 yards. I have shot further with it, but it starts drifting pretty good. Also am only shooting with a 1-8x scope which also works great up to 500 yards.
