Does anyone know of any places to rent a sailboat for a day or two at a nearby lake? Located here in B/CS so I was thinking Lake Belton, Conroe, any of the Highland Lakes near Austin.

I'm looking to learn sailing and my parents have experience but only have powerboats at the moment. Any help would be much appreciated!

Not familiar with any in that area, but I've heard good things about Bay Area Sailing School - particularly if interested in ASA classes. They're in Kemah, which is south east of Houston.

Call A&M sailing club?

You want to take a class with one of those small sailing dinghys that are very simple. I own one but it needs to be refurbished with a new sail.

I've thought about calling the sailing club but do they help out former students?

BQ98 - That's what my father was saying. He said he learned at camp Longhorn on a "sunfish" as a kid and it helped him a lot when he actually got into it. I just can't seem to find a place that rents them for a day or two anywhere. Smallest boat I can find is a 22' race boat on Lake Travis :/

This. I was a member during my school days and they typically had a few local former students that were members also. Primarily out of Lake Bryan on small 15 footers and cats, but lake somerville would take out a few 19 footers day sailers. They used to have a cabin cruiser rig on Conroe I believe, but I never saw it. worth a look.
