Anyone know any good spots for kid friendly fishing in Temple/ Belton/ Kileen areas? I will have my kids there this weekend and looking for some easily accessible spots/ponds to bank fish. I'm not looking for monsters, just panfish/catfish that are easy for the kids to catch and release. Thanks

I would probably avoid Nolan Creek in downtown Belton. It's a mess now with people swimming and tubing.

Leon River in Heritage Park is an option

I've taken my kids here a caught panfish and small bass. It's a little south of where you're looking but an easy drive from Temple or Belton.

San Gabriel WMA

During the spring, it's a good kayak launch point for whites and crappie.

ETA: Water levels might be an issue, though.

Also, Willis Creek Park is a pretty good place for bank fishing, depending on the water level. I haven't been in years but we would catch catfish with some regularity, especially when the water was somewhat high.

Is this a joke? I grew up calling Nolan Creek "Turd Creek".

Upper stretch of the creek was turd creek back when there was sewage draining into it from Fort Hood. Downtown Belton is now like a mini version of the Comal all summer.

Grew up there...

If you google it and find directions there is a catfish farm in buckholtz Texas. Not sure it's around anymore but it used to be$5 and you could catch catfish and bass all day..

Thanks guys! I'll check it all out and report back. We went last weekend to the Marina at Stillhouse Hollow Lake and had no luck. It was a really neat setup but they weren't biting Sunday. Gonna try a few of the spots mentioned here this weekend

Live minnows under that dock should pick up some crappie if you go back.
