How long do you want to ignore this user?

I'm looking for some nice fencing for horses and think I'm down to either metal or ponderosa fencing (not installing until later in year). Anyone have any experience with the ponderosa fencing? Other ideas besides metal or ponderosa?

Following this. Will need to replace about 1400 feet of fencing sometime soon and am looking for something better looking than barbed wire.

We put up some for my folks.

It was a simple process, only complicated by being on an entry way. The pipes slid together really well. We did have to cut some pipes to make the corners exactly right.

I'm not impressed with the swinging gate as much tho. It has a lot of adjustments to make it look right, but I would be sure to predrill the holes to make sure it is perfectly square. The pipe gates are kinda heavy and it shows if it's not squared up perfectly.

Overall I'm impressed.

ETA: Get yourself a couple long levels to work with and double check post heights. It will help make sure it looks sharp.

There's one of these in the back roads of Fayette County near Ellinger TX. The posts have not aged well. Vertical cracks running down between the holes. A few that you could tell had been replaced.

I reached out to Preifert to ask if there was any warranty of the posts - negative.

This fencing is basically a 3 pipe metal fence with bad posts. IMO, go with drill stem pipe and your best local crew of post hole diggers and welders. You'll end up with a better fence and no maintenance. Let it get rusty, nothing to paint, etc.

They do have a new octagonal steel post option that looks pretty sharp.

I used to work there and, yes, the posts will crack, but it's a wood post. All wood outside will eventually deteriorate and wood with holes drilled in it will do so quicker.

Agree.

My research and pricing said buy drill stem, but I get there may be a "looks" consideration with the Ponderosa

Thanks PFG. Seems like ponderosa would be considerably cheaper on labor. If prices are close I'd rather go all pipe. I've seen several of the fences and they've always looked sharp but maybe because they were newer.

Have you received a quote/linear foot for the ponderosa?

I really don't have anything to add from a personnal knowledge standpoint.

After looking at the website, the Ponderosa fence sure look a lot sharper. It's kind of that classic look I would expect to see on a nice working cattle ranch in the rockies.

This is a good looking product. Powder coated and assembled on site without welding. Pricey though.

Yeah, in white it is ugly.. but it is powder coated steel. Makes great horse fence.

That Ponderosa looks really nice, which means it's probably really expensive.

Just started my research so haven't asked for a quote yet.

Another similar concept to the 440 Fence I found.

Unless they have changed the Ponderosa much, it was ~$10 to $12/ft depending if you went 3 or 4 rail. I had a fence builder that was charging ~$15/ft installed.

You should look into their Estate Fencing. Looks sharp and it's all powdercoated galvanized. They replaced the wood posts with octagonal steel.
