I recently sodded two parts of my yard. I used two different grass places to buy the sod due to availability. In the area from "place B" I am seeing tons of this weed.

I'm not sure if it's crabgrass or quackgrass or something else?

How do I get rid of it? Will pre-emergent do it? RoundUp for Lawns? Should I pick them all?

location = Houston if that matters

Somebody with more knowledge will post shortly I am sure, but I would be real hesitant to hit it with anything if the sod is recently laid.

Take it to the bank that is nut sedge and sedge hammer is what you want. Make sure you use a surfactant.

I put the sod down the first week of March, so ~3 months ago.

Roll it in your fingers. Sedge has a triangle stem, very distinctive. Herbicides for sedge (not a grass) should not hurt grass.

If sedge was present in the sod you bought, I'd ask for a refund.

I would go back where I bought that sod and raise hell.

I've had good luck with Image. Easy to find at HD/Lowe's.

"Shows the root" HA! Maybe like 5% of the root and certainly not enough to kill it. Slow it down for 2 days, maybe

A big reason I went was finding out it was Aggie owned, so haven't really "done anything." I just won't go there again.

Dove weed would like to talk with you. But sedge atleast has something that will kill it

To be fair, it's been 90 days, which I didn't know when I first posted. Unless this was in the sod when you bought it, more than enough time to come up through the sod from your dirt or sprout from seed.

I'd talk to them and see what they said before I bad mouthed them or took away my business.

Monument is your best option. Dismiss does pretty good. Image and sedge hammer will only suppress. It will be back.

Yeah I definitely haven't bad mouthed them because I really don't know grass (hence my questions!)

I was so quick to blame since there's two different providers of sod, same species basically right next to each other and the other providers grass looks amazing and doesn't have any issues.

We will see if I can kill these sedges!

Been dealing with it for 18 years since I sodded my yard. I get rid of it and a year or so later it's back.
