My Hunt River crossings ratings. (Main river + North fork, I lived on North Fork)
1. The Flats
2. Wagon Wheel
3. Hunt Crossing
Schumacher Crossing - Picnic tables and waterfall are nice. Tons of people, deep water and steep banks. ** out of 5.
Hunt Crossing - Rope swing, small cliff to jump off of, dam with deeper water on one side (silty), some zero entry areas into water. Crowded. *** out of 5.
Mayhugh Crossing - Closest to my house and used to be my favorite. There was a nice beachy area with lots of skipping rocks, clear water, deep cool pools in places, lots of fish and nobody was ever there. A flood washed the beach area and when they widened the bridge it made it very hard to get into. Currently ** out of 5.
Honey Creek Crossing - A beachlike area, shallower water, nothing too special. Only time I spent there was waiting for the body of a guy that tried to cross the next crossing upstream during a flood to wash down. Didn't see him but the next day someone found him there. ** out of 5.
Hope Crossing - Like Honey Creek but no dead bodies haunting the place. ** out of 5.
Waldemar Crossing - No parking signs everywhere, kind of in the middle of Camp Waldemar, not very inviting, never went. * out of 5.
Graham Crossing - Some shallow water, not much to it. ** out of 5.
Wagon Wheel crossing has shallow water on one side and a dam with deep water on the other. Usually no one there. **** of 5.
Past Wagon Wheel is the Flats, not sure of the official name. Upstream of crossing is a bit silty, downstream is hard rock bottom. Great place to sit and drink beer in flowing clear water or for small kids to play around in. Walk downstream and see the cliffs. My favorite but it can get crowded, get there early and get the good spot in the hot tub. It's kind of a deeper area that has rocky sides to sit on in a circle so you can talk to friends. Sometimes there are dumbasses there and cops come and check for glass/litter. ***** of 5 when there aren't dumbasses there.
MO Ranch Crossing - Jump off the bridge and swim over to MO ranch and pretend like you belong. Play on the slide and rope swing. Since you're bringing your family and not a teenager it's probably more of a * out of 5.
