imo the only parts that really influence how it runs are going to be the gas block and mags. I got the odin click adjustable gas block and e-lander mags. The parts that are going to influence how it shoots are the barrel and trigger (I got a black hole weaponry from surplusammo.com, and a velocity...if you want "the best" you're probably looking for something like shilen, bartlein, krieger, lilja, etc and geisselle jewell or triggertech). The rest of the parts are just a matter of how you want it to look, feel and weigh. again, imo

OK here is the consensus (if you can call it that)
AERO Upper was recommended twice so far
trigger... gisselle CMC or Larue were listed
Barrel...everywhere 3 different rec's, 3 different lengths so I am assuming 3 different twists
Lower...not sure

more help if you are bored would be appreciated

An intended purpose would help on parts recs.

If you're looking to build a 6.5 Grendel that you can hit steel targets with at 1000 yards, I'm going to be recommending a different barrel than if you're looking for a lightweight hunting gun for deer at 300 and in.

As an example.

I'm into the rifle (no optics or suppressor) for about $1600. The barrel is a Match Grade 20" Recon Sniper in 1:8 twist from Wilson. Currently it's $304 on their website, but watch for 20% off sales periodically.

You can shave some $ and weigh by going to a standard Magpul buttstock. My rifle is heavy with optics and suppressor so I got a BOG DeathGrip for shooting (another $250). Also, the magpul Pro BUIS are nice by $$ for what they are.

I'd keep it pretty simple then. 18" barrel from any of the quality makers, LPVO in the 1-6 or 1-8 range, decent trigger would make a great Grendel hunting rig. handguard/stock/etc to your preference.

Can i derail the thread for a second and ask what hunting rounds you guys are using?

I want to try the Hornady Custom 123g SST, but Academy doesn't show they stock it online. I haven't been in a store to verify that yet.

I just went through a pricing drill on this and ended up just ordering a LaRue Ultimate Upper kit. Ended up being the best value.

I put a seekins adjustable gas block on mine.

My neighbor bought a complete aero upper. His cycles the 123grain SST and wolf 100 grain fine with no issues. Mine with the adjustable required about a box of ammo to get it dialed in on cycling.

Also what I found is the wolf 100 grain shot about 2" high compared to the Hornady. Next time I will be sighting in with wolf then switch to the SST.

Also used e-lander mags without issue

Second this. I don't understand the love/hate people have with larue. The 6.5 G upper kit has absolutely everything you need minus the lower receiver. The fit and finish is nice, gun performs well. Are there better 6.5 G out there? Absolutely, but for the price you are getting a kit that will make a really nice rifle and IT HAS ALL THE PARTS!
Assembling a rifle for the first time is a lot of fun, but can be challenging at times, especially if you don't have some of the tools that make it easier. Do yourself a favor and order a rifle kit that has all the parts and pieces you need for a first time assembly.

You can order a lower from LaRue for $199 with it. I'm in just under $1100 for a complete rifle minus optic and mount. I will be out another ~$80 for the suppressor mount to match my Dead Air. The upper kit comes with a trigger and lower parts kit already. Just have to assemble it. Hell, if you don't want to assemble it, they have free upper assembly right now.

Could not piece one together to beat that with a barrel I would trust.
