Has anyone ever shot one of these little .410's? I'm really thinking of getting one for my oldest boy, to be passed down to the other kids.

He has my old single shot .22 Hornet, and I like that this shotgun has almost idendical function. Will be familiar for him.

Looking at the patterns of those Federal TSS turkey loads through this, I might even be carrying this featherweight turkey hunting!

Bought my son a single shot .20 gauge Rossi wood stock years ago because it was cheap gun and I thought it would be safe starter it kicked worse than a regular shotgun because it was so light - he used it 2 or 3 times and it hurt him so bad we never used it again. May be different since it is a .410 and designed for specialized turkey loads

Great idea on the 410. Especially if he is already familiar with the hammer. Will be fun.
We have a revelation made by Mossberg bolt action 410 that my kid started dove hunting with at age 8. First couple of hunts only loading one shell. Later put one in the mag also. Great way to start bird hunting a year or two before they are big enough to handle a heavier gun. I've never weighed it but I bet the little 410 that we both started on is a couple pounds lighter the the franchi 20 he moved up to.

I had a New England .410 with a similar build growing up (no turkey choke). I would not recommend this style gun for use to hunt dove or any other fast action animal. It is difficult for a kid to quickly set the hammer then get on target. That inevitably results in the kid starting to set the hammer in anticipation which leads to safety issues. I went from the .410 to a 870 express youth model. I was generally safer with the latter.

Just a heads up in case you were wanting this to be an all around trainer.

How old is your boy? My son has been shooting a youth model 20 gauge the past 3 seasons. He now has the 870 youth. I'd rather have a 20. His gun is light but recoil isn't bad at all. First two seasons I'd set him up with shooting sticks, but now he doesn't need them. He's 11. Feel like the pump will grow with your boy better also than the break over.

I bought a Rossi youth 410 for my 9 and 7 year olds, and it kicks too hard for them. It's light and kicks pretty good for a 410.

He is about to be 8. I know for sure he isn't ready for a 20. I'm hoping this is more of a stepping stone for each of the kids as they progress.

This is good advice. I'm not thinking this would be an all around bird gun. More of just an introduction into shotguns and a way for him to turkey hunt. I live in SW CO, so not as many migratory bird hunting opportunities.

I have a second for the Rossi. It is what a buddy of mine used for his 2 kids first birds on my place. It looks very similar.

I know you have lots of birds down that way, but opening day here is pretty much a slam dunk and I'm a sucker to see a kid tip over their first bird.

On another note, if you want to make another fan display like you did for my kid, let me know what it will cost.

Edit for typo.

I tried to send you a PM so I could plug my son-in-law's company that makes TSS But it bounced because "user is not a valid subscriber ". Even though you have two stars?

I'm not premium right now. I usually drop it during the off season, but we'll have to see how long the belt tightening lasts this year.

you can hit me up at username @ gmail. Appreciate the tip!!!!

I'll definitely check out the Rossi. Appreciate it!

I'de love to do another one of those. That was a really fun project. I actually have some time to devote to the tools towards the end of this month too. You might have to send me those reference pics of your peak again, if you want that again. I've still got the plans for it, but could use those pics for the details. I still have your email, I'll drop you a line brother.
