Wife and I are thinking about building a new house and wanted to see if any of you have added a gun room to your house? Looking for ideas.

Ive done a few (I'm a builder). I think my favorite one wasn't cool because it was beefed up, it was cool because it was hidden.

It was the size of a small walk in closet. It was accessed via a false cabinet/hidden door. The layout of the house made it pretty discreet too. My millwork guy made custom racks for the walls. It was pretty cool. I wish we had photos of it.

Do it, you will never regret it. Never.

I suspect Barnes will be along shortly in some form or another to present the most glorious gun room ever and he will state that it was custom built for him by the Hawaiian Tropic Contractors Bikini Team.

Seen a few. Centrally located safe rooms. Only door is a vault door. No exterior walls. Cinder block/concrete walls. Ventilation. Dry goods. Reloading station and guns, Lots of guns and ammo. My only fear would be not living there till I die.

That's what I'd like to do. I saw a bookcase door online, looked cool.

When we had our house built we had a hidden locking gun closet put in. I just wish I would have made it bigger...

With the barn filled with Sherman tanks or did Corona set that build back?

What are folks doing for the ceiling? I get the cinder block walls. What about up top? Quarter inch steel?

Mine is 8' x 12'. Rebar set into the foundation sticking up a couple of feet to tie into the concrete block wall. Blocks filled with cement and 4-5 pieces of concrete board for the roof. Went with a Sturdy Safe vault door because it was the least expensive vault door that was worth a crap.

Several layers of cement board. It's on the first floor so there is flooring and joists also up there to get through also. I talked to a couple of guys were builders of home gun rooms and that's the standard. It's not Fort Knox but it's a pretty strong deterrent.

I had one in our last house. I think I made it pretty big. Maybe 10x12. The walls were poured and tied into the foundation. They made a offset lip around the top and used ply wood to form and pour the ceiling then removed the ply wood. It had sliding book case that covered the safe door. It had built in shelving and a work bench. I bought a couple of gun safe door inserts and nailed them to the walls for more storage. I have some pics but not sure I can post on mobile. Will try to remember when I'm near computer.

It's not too fancy and I didn't bother cleaning it up before I took pics for y'all.
