I sent that to a buddy who lives in Pebble Creek and he advised he'd be careful.

If you think the wolf-dog hybrids are bad. Take a look at the wolf-dog-penguin hybrid.

Update - the replies are as expected. We have had several confirmations of puma and mountain lion sightings. Oh and my favorite....the reason Wolf Pen Creek is so named is that pioneers discovered wolf pens at that location. Apparently our local indigenous wolves were industrious construction workers that made pens to feel more at home. She wrote wolf pens, not dens.

I always thought "Wolf Den Creek" would have been a better name.

Excuse my ignorance, why is it named Wolf Pen Creek?

And were wolves even indigenous that far south? I know we had them in the Panhandle.

Not a clue, but given the inability to ID wildlife I'm not buying the Nextdoor history lesson.

Weren't red wolves all over the state and the south?

I think I remember a MeatEater podcast where they said there was some red wolf dna very prevalent in some coyotes down around Galveston.

Red wolves were common across most of the state at one time. There were some verified sightings of a few in southeast Texas in the 60's. As typical they were the big bad wolf and trapped and killed till they were gone.

One of the first things given to the Panhandle-Plains Museum in Canyon during the 1930s was "the last wolf shot in the Texas Panhandle". Shot and stuffed in about 1909, I think. It was pretty ratty looking when I first saw it as a kid.

From the Internet, may or may not be accurate

I'll believe it's a wolf when it's been captured and confirmed.

That map is accurate but I'd love to see how they'd make wolves happen in Eddy and Lea counties.

I live in Pebble Creek. We see coyotes on occasion and hear them frequently. They roam Lick Creek Park and cross over into PC. I have never seen a wolf, definitely coyotes.

This reminded me of something posted on Traces of Texas recently. Last Jaguar shot in Texas (MIlls County 1903).

Please tell me someone posted that she put people's pets in more danger by scaring the 'wolf' off its natural prey.

I live in Pebble Creek as well and saw that post yesterday. I'm tempted to reply that kids driving golf carts around the neighborhood helps to keep the wolves away.
