Any recommendations on gun safes or specifics to look for? I'm all for supporting the local businesses so any recommendations for TX businesses are also appreciated. I'm in DFW. And no this question is not stimulus check driven

Can you give us a little more info. How many guns do you think you will need to put in? Any size or space restrictions? Drawer or bedside safe?

Whatever you do, get a bigger one than you think you need right now.

Sorry about that. I'm looking to store a few shotguns and scoped rifles. I would like to have room to store ammo and few handguns as well. I would like something that doesn't require a crane to move if that's possible to get and still be secure and such

I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Purely anecdotal but I have a 35 year old Browning safe that was in my Dad's office for 20 years and now I have owned for 15 years. I know the new ones are fancier and heavier, but lock has never failed and it has lasted me forever.

Seems like the popular ones include Browning, Liberty, and American Security. There are more and other high end brands, but those three are carried almost anywhere.

I have a Sturdy safe. Made in America! They don't do any marketing but check out their website. Small company and great customer service.

Liberty Fatboy Jr is pretty much the best bang for your buck out there.

What's the turn around time on these?

Mine took about 5-6weeks from placing the order to it arriving on my doorstep.

Edit: that was in 2013, so it may be more or less now.

Security Products Safes

These are custom made in Elm Mott, Texas. They can do about anything. Custom size, interior, and paint.
I've had three of these made. I keep getting a bigger one each time. The earlier posters were right. Get bigger than you think you need.

Would you happen to know rough starting prices for these safes? I'm not trying to ask how much you spent, just curious what dollar range they start at.

Not Currently. My last one was built 15 yrs ago.
They have a quick quote option where you can choose your options and submit and they will give you a price.
The double door safe is really nice because you can have more width and not as much depth.

If I ever build another house I'm going to build a small reinforced room with a Vault door. My uncle had one in his basement and its pretty cool to open the vault door and walk into you gunroom with your firearms prominently displayed instead of stacked deep in a safe hidden.

A walk in is on my bucket list. Just not in the cards right now.

Talk to the guys at Security. I think you will be impressed. I've enjoyed my safe. I have the recessed key lock. It's nice to not have to remember a number. I have an older safe that has a rotating tumbler lock and sometimes it can be a pain in the ass if your hand is not steady or your miss a number slightly. They have info and a video on the recessed key lock bolt action on the website. If you prefer they have electronic or combination locks as an option.

Once while living in another town someone broke into our house while we were out. They didn't take enough to notice but I'm a creature of habit and some things were moved around and I noticed and got a funny feeling. My wife was missing some medication from the medicine cabinet. Then we noticed our spare keys were missing from a drawer. It seems they thieves were going to come back during the holiday's and take their time. We were packed to go that evening. I called and got the locks on the door changed . Put screws into the backdoor sliding glass door. I was worried about my guns then realized I had a friend who had the same safe setup. I called and we switched out the locks of his safe for mine that evening. When I returned I called Security Products and that sent me a new set of locks. It gave me peace of mind while I was on vacation.
