Just got into a new home with a decent sized patio and want to mount a tv outside. It would be "poolside" but fully covered/shaded and little chance it will come into contact with water directly.

Of course the google comes up with "Outdoor TV's" but I don't really want to buy another, I've got one I pulled out of my garage that seemed to hold up ok the last 3-4 years. Not that worried about security either, pretty safe neighborhood and not looking to mount a brand new state of the art television outside.

Any specific concerns / recommendations / issues I need to be aware of? I would really like to just take my TV and mount from my old garage and stick them outside. Generally it seems like it would be the exact same environment.

I bought a cheap 42 during Christmas and built box similar to this. I sealed it best I could and have not had any issues.

Ha nah its not as nice as one in picture but I like it its not as dark stain and stencil I used kind of bled some.

Bet it looks good. That's a pretty good idea for the future as well.

No problem. Bought the cheapest 40" I could find on a black Fr sale from Amazon $399. . Been mounted and working fine for 3 years. No cover but protected from weather on patio.

I have a covered patio. Bought a regular tv and mounted it up high. Lasted about three years. Had some really foggy days and it went tits up. I bought another one and got a cover for it off amazon. It's been three years or so and still going.

Get a mount with a swivel arm so you can orient it to the pool. We've put pool chairs in the shallow entry and watched many an Aggie baseball game. Also agree on the cover. We have a Sunbrella brand that velcros on the bottom and back.

I have a cabinet "frame" mounted to the brick wall on a narrow spot between the back door and an adjacent window. I say frame, because I did not want any gaps between a cabinet back and the brick due to the uneven surface. I mounted the frame with tapcon screws to the brick, and a extendable swivel mount for the TV the same way. I cannot stress this type mount enough. It is not only important for viewing angles, but for glare also. The slightest amount of angle can do wonders for the picture on a bright day, or sunset/sunrise. We then used a color appropriate sealant between the frame and the brick. Instead of trying to incorporate accordion style doors which may develop issues over time, we have one for each side. This would be an issue with the door and window so close (50" TV), we used a dual hinge arrangement on each door that when swung 90 deg out, the door can be lifted from the hinges and set aside. The "frame" has a full length shelf that is covered by the doors when closed for the sound bar, which has a wireless sub. You can see the brick from the wall around the edges of the TV when the doors are off, which gives it a continuity of sort with the brick. It only takes a few more seconds to mount the doors again to close the cabinet than to close up an accordion style and it is a very clean look when the doors are off.

One piece of advice no matter your cabinet for an outdoor TV. You can turn the TV off, but never kill the power to it if you can. The TV will give off just enough of a heat signature that will keep the electronics dry under normal conditions. I learned this from having a fishing cabin 400 feet from the intracoastal waterway. A cabin with no climate control unless we are there. We kept burning through a TV every year or so. Since we left the power to them on, we have had the same TV for going on 9 years.

I have two outdoor tv's and both are just regular Samsung tv's mounted on regular mounts. I can buy 5 of each before I end up with the same cost as a true outdoor rated tv. Thus far I've only replaced one in three years.

The left is 55" and the right is 65".

What cable provider do you have?

If you have Xfinity, I highly recommend buying a TCL TV with the built in Roku. They are really cheap, always on sale and the picture is great. There is an Xfinity app on Roku and as long as the tv is connected to your home WiFi you just go to the app and it works exactly like having a cable box. It's awesome. My patio TV has one power cord coming out of it. That's it.

I have a 40" that was outside under a covered patio for 5 years and has now been in my garage for 3+ years. Still going strong. I now have a 55" on the patio that's been going for 3+ years. Both were cheap TVs. I do put a cover on the outside one in the summer since it doesn't really get used when it's 100 degrees outside, but other than that it's not covered other than by the patio.

Buy a cheap one, get 3+ years out of it, then buy another cheap one.

Go with the TCL series from Costco. Costco covers the warranty for the 1st 2 years. You can pick up an extra 3 years for cheap. This will give you at least 5 years with the TV outside. I've had the 43" out on my patio for 5 years now with no problems.

TCL 43" Class Smart TV - 4K UHD LED LCD TV: $215
Extended Protection Plan (years 3-5) TVs <$500: $35

TCL 55" Class Smart TV - 4K UHD LED LCD TV: $400
Extended Protection Plan (years 3-5) TVs $500-$1000: $65

TCL 65" Class Smart TV - 4K UHD LED LCD TV: $500
Extended Protection Plan (years 3-5) TVs $500-$1000: $65

We plan on getting one next year when we start our outdoor patio project. The last two years has been spent remodeling our kitchen, 2 bathrooms, living room, and dining room.

S'mores, really? I'm not really looking to watch a guy I've never met lick sticky stuff off his fingers. Maybe margaritas and then we can talk. JK btw about all of it minus the finger licking.

I've had a tv on my back patio facing poolside for several years with no issue. Screwed in the swivel mount to the brick wall, no issues. I only have about a 2' overhang, I stopped covering it a couple years back after I forgot to put the cover on before a downpour and there wasn't even a drop on the screen afterwards. It never gets direct sunlight though. I got a cheap 50" roku tv from costco for ~$350.

Edit: the tv i have is one of the TCL's mentioned above. Highly recommend.

My wife installed a retractable system that brings the tv up flat against the ceiling and drops it down for viewing. Regular flat screen tv. We did it so it would be out of sight and not block any view when not in use. I got no idea how to post pics.

Buddy of mine has 4 TVs mounted in his outdoor patio to watch multiple games at once. He just buys cheapo 42s from Frys and just replaces when they go out

I have a cheap insignia that's just on a swivel mount with no cover under roof on my patio. TV has been outdoors for 6ish years now with no issue.
