Anyone used this on st augustine? The label says it is safe for st augustine but not flortam. Makes me a little nervous. So looking for anyone who has experience using it.

I would add that I have my doubts it kills the entire root system. It came back after a month or so.

My experience is that it snuffs it out for the year, but you'll be using it again next year. Not a big deal, but I too doubt it kills off the entire root system.

Thanks for the input. I am trying to get my grass healthy enough that it can crowd out a lot of the weeds. So this year I am trying to kill all of them down with post emergent and start a pre-emergent and fertilizing schedule.

I firmly believe that you could set of a thermonuclear bomb, and nutsedge would pop up the next spring

Use it and wait at least 3-4 weeks. Reapply. Works much better that way.

I was in SE Asia a few years back and they grew it in their flowerbed to complement the flowering plants. It was knee-high or more and actually look nice if I didn't know how much of a nuisance it was back here.

It works in a couple doses, as does Sedgehammer. Some affect on the St. Augustine. But I'd hesitate to apply any herbicide when temps are +85F.

It will kill it, but you need to put down two applications 2 to 4 weeks apart. I typically forget the second application or make it 8 weeks later.

Never had luck with permanent killing with Image or Sedgehammer. It hurts it, for sure, but doesn't kill it. Certainty is the only thing I've found that straight up murders nutsedge, and even it takes 2 applications.

It will work.

Several apps (2-3)

Spray down into the joint of the leaves. Not broadcast. With a hand wand

Faster growing plants are easier to kill so a few days after watering maybe. And I like to do it either early morning (no dew) or late afternoon and when temps are 60-85

Heard a rumor of 150% strength but I'd never ignore a label

The new Image is atrazine and will not work on sedge. The old Image is imazaquin and will kill sedge (several apps). Check the label on your product before using.

Thx. Was not aware of that change. I have a 5-6 yr supply of concentrate that i will have to hoard like chlorodane

FWIW, the Ortho product is a decent substitute for nutsedge.

I thought the atrazine version only came in the purple top, is it all versions now?

There are several versions of image, not sure they all use atrazine

Probably true..that's why I stressed to read the label.

I tried image and all it did was really hurt my st. augustine. Been using Ortho nutsedge killer (green bottle) from big box store.
Works GREAT. stunts the st augustine but that bounces back pretty quick. I get right up to it and spray a bit. Sometimes kills it first but usually reapply.
also use surfectant to help it stick

I like most herbicides. Certain ones are better than others depending on particular weed species and the desirable crop, whether turf, pasture, non-crop, etc. That said, imazaquin (Image) sucks IMO. I never had it kill much of anything. Stick with Certainty or Sedgehammer. Usually 2 applications/ yr.
