I think this started off as a youtube rabbit hole. Watching thermal videos, led to remote activated trap videos, led to some yankee running snares. Hey that sounds way cheaper than the first two options so figured Id give it a shot. Called the guy that runs Southern Snare Supply and he set me up with some "Super Hog Snares" and extensions. Supposed to be rated for the biggest boars. https://www.southernsnares.com/products/hog-snare Good customer service and a good price. Tag ends of the 49 strand were left exposed so be careful with no gloves.

Set a few out on some well worn trails.

Had a couple knock downs by unknown critters and finally snagged one today. He was less than happy upon approach. A couple charges cut short by the end of his leash and the Ruger PCC did quick work.

Maybe I am an old sap, but I love a story with a happy ending. Good job.

I skipped right to the end and was surprised the snare killed him. Then I read your story.

What did you tie the end off to?

Curious if this would work like "trotline" once you snared one and let it become the "natural" call for others?

As high in a tree as you can get it. So when they pull they can't get straight line leverage against it.

My luck I'd show up with a doe snared and a game warden leaning against the fence post, whistlin

Or a calf and my brother waiting there to kick my ass.

Should have mentioned deer. You add deer stops so the cable can't cinch down tight enough for a doe. A big buck won't be able to get his rack and head in the loop. My deer seem to be using different trails than the pigs. You also set them lower than a deers head level.

The one in the picture is set under a fence. Not setting on fence slides will help avoid deer too.

With all that said, I've seen my share of deer beat themselves to death in a normal hog trap so its always a risk.
