Years ago my FIL and I went to squaw creek. We thoroughly enjoyed it and caught many a fish.

I want to surprise him and take him back. I know I need reservations and all so no big deal.

Has anyone fished there in awhile? Maybe looking at May. When I looked online there were many dates available which worried me that it isn't so good anymore.

Any recommendations of a place to stay nearby?

Squaw Creek as in upper Rio Grande near Creede? May is pretty early. Lots of good fishing all over that area.

There are hotels on Glen Rose and Granbury.

I don't know anymore but I do know that I did my open water check out dives in that lake. Nice and warm in February but really eerie with all the alarms and signs around and the constant plant noise in the background.

It is still very good fishing. If you know someone who can get you into the " restricted" area it is even better. But it is good fishing. Have fun.

SanAntone, I know all of that but I was trying to get advice from texags is all since we know stuff. Sometimes the best recommendations come from here rather than other forums, thus the post.

Blindey, I'm a dive instructor and had no clue that you could dive there. I would imagine that it is quite clear. Would love to hear more about your experience.

My buddy and fellow Aggie is the park superintendent at Dinosaur Valley. The lake is over run with tilapia. I have gone bow fishing a few times with him. Make sure you call and make a reservation.

I really don't know where to stay. I stay in the park. If you call the state park, they will help you out.
