I'm thinking of trying something different and putting sausage in chili. Before I make something horrible...has anybody else tried this and how'd it turn out? Outdoor related because I'm going to carry it this weekend when I go camping.

We've substituted pan sausage (venison) for ground meat (venison) a lot...chili, tacos, spaghetti, etc. I think it takes on the flavor of the sauces and seasonings...usually can't tell much difference between it and ground meat.

I did it on accident once, then on purpose a few times after that. Just use less salt & you're good to go.

Family has used pan sausage as a substitute for ground beef a lot. It's good as usual.

Smoke a pork butt and use that

As long as your sausage seasoning isn't too crazy, it should be fine. Just cut back on the salt, and maybe other seasonings too.

We use half Italian sausage-ground beef/venison for lasagna. Adds nice flavor

This. Plus do the same for meat loaf, meatballs, burgers, "sloppy joes" -- if I remember to buy Italian sausage, I'll incorporate it into all ground beef dishes.

My grandpa always said, if you put good stuff in, you'll get good stuff out. I'm a sausage lover...sounds like a better way to make it.

I made some of my wife's "chili" with a mixture of turkey and Italian sausage that I had in the freezer. It was good. Not chili but pretty good for "chili".

When I have done it, I do 1lb deer pan sausage and 1 lb deer ground meat. It is good but I think all sausage would be too much

Depends on your pan sausage recipe. I put marjoram, ginger, nutmeg, and brown sugar in my pan sausage, therefore, it's not going in my Chili

Do it all the time. 1/2 hot Italian venison sausage, 1/2 ground venison.

Did half ground beef and half chorizo in chili based on a recommendation from my cousin. Honestly I couldn't tell much difference in the beef/chorizo and all ground beef so I never did it again.
