Tapcom screws or lag bolt?

Will be drilling into mortar FWIW.

TV is only 37 inches I believe, not much bigger if so. What does all mighty OB think?

Expansion anchor with a lag IMO.

Expansion and lags would be the way to go. I don't trust tapcon screws, they seem to strip the hole too easily and then don't hold well.

I think that isn't enough tv. 55 or bigger.

Using Tapcon currently and if you drill the hole properly, you shouldn't run into issues. I could hang off my mount if I wanted.

You don't really need a TV. You just think you do. Try to imagine all the things you could do out there without it. Then decide if you need it or not.

I actually just did this a few weeks ago in my patio using the tapcon screws with a 42" Vizio. I would not recommend getting anything longer than 2.5-2.75". The first hole I tapped was too deep and had to go back for a shorter screw. Worked just fine!

I didn't think it was possible to drill pilot holes for tapcon screws too deep?

I didn't like how loose my tapcons seemed to be, so I set them with construction adhesive as well. It has worked for almost 5 years so far.

The drill bit provided was longer than the screws and the brick. I tapped too deep on the initial pilot and then decided to go with a shorter screw.

My house is brick and stone. If I were wanting to support weight, I would drill into the brick and not the mortar.

Absolutely this! I have a 55" TV and used a Sanus mounting bracket. Bracket weighs more than the TV!
