Model 70 Supergrade vs Extreme Weather

I'm going to purchase a Model 70 in .300 Win Mag for western hunts. I thought that I was going to do an extreme weather but am thinking about purchasing a super grade from a member here instead. I greatly prefer the looks of the super grade and think a bit extra weight to help with recoil won't be a bad thing. This gun comes with both wood and a synthetic stock although imagine I would mainly use the wood.

Is there any reason to be concerned about rain, warping, etc. on such a gun on say a weeklong moose hunt in Alaska? This will compliment a M70 Featherweight Stainless .270 I have.

Thanks!

If you're worried about it that much, I'd just swap the stock on a temporary basis for your hunt and switch it back. I've contemplated going to buy a 150 dollar Boyd's laminate stock just to replace a wood stock I don't want to tear up.

I'd go wood. How often are you hunting ? Switching out sounds like an ass pain and it's not something I'd want to fool with every time even if it was easy. You'll need to at least Re sight in.

Leave it wood. Be careful. If you get a ding then just chick it up to a memory of the hunt. Plastic stocks are ugly as fook.

I don't mind dings - just didn't know if warping was ever a concern on a hunt. Honestly this rifle won't be used a ton. It will be used at the range to get proficient with, probably practice with it on hogs and then used on western hunts (1-2 hunts a year).

My .270 will remain my most used gun.

It won't warp in that short of time. If you don't like it after the hunt, add a Manners or McMillan stock and you will be golden.

I carried a Supergrade around the mountains for 3 western hunts, and finally decided it was too dang heavy to lug all over the mountain. If you are hunting from horses I could see getting away with it, but with the backpack hunting I was doing the weight was super annoying.

I also used a solo hunter rifle cover to keep it from getting tore up, and protecting the scope.

I have since purchased a Kimber subalpine and put a lightweight scope on it. It is less than half the weight of the supergrade set up I have. I still like the supergrade, but it is my texas deer blind rifle now.

This is what I ultimately decided as well. As much as I wanted the gun when I added the accessories it was just going to be too much for the type of hunting I'll be using it for.
