Anybody familiar with this place?
Looks like we're booking several days for mid July. Reviews and photos look great.

What part of the state? And what are you planning on doing while there? We go to Santa Fe a few times a year.

I stayed there roughly 30 years ago. My family loved it. It's been so long I can't really tell you anything about it, but I do remember enjoying it as a kid.

Chama area, fairly close to Brazos Cliffs. Hopefully, catching many fat trout. It's a fishing lodge with private access to the river. It's been around since 1930, but upgraded. Supposed to be one of the best in the State.

Their website is total crap. How much is it per night?

Was there 8 years ago. Look for the Trip Adviser review from July 2012, you;ll find mine. Older place, the cabin we stayed in was probably built in the 50s. But it was clean, and it was nice and isolated. Seems like there were a few miles of dirt road to get to it.

If you want a bunch of activities, probably not your place. If you want rustic and scenery, it is.

And I love the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad.

"A few miles off a dirt road in Northern New Mexico" is exactly what we're looking for. I fell in love with the isolation and scenery of that area many years ago- that's enough for me. The kicker is- access to over 2 1/2 miles of private Brazos and Chama River for some top of the line fly fishing. A little pricey, but I've spent more and gotten less in other places. Thanks for the replies.

Ok. Since you're not going to post what it is per night and their website won't show it I can't compare that part. But Vermejo is in that area and is top notch if you're looking for recommendations.

My wife's cousin used to live on Vermejo ranch as a forester. We got to stay with them a couple times in their employee housing. That place is so badass...if you can swing it, go for it.

If you do the railroad and you don't have kids, book the adults-only car at the back end of the train. They take real good care of you there. If going from Chama, be on the right side. From Antonito, be on the left. And take a jacket too, even during the summer.

We booked seats inside. Then we spent the whole trip out in the open gondola cars. So I say take a sweater and a sun hat.

Just got home and didn't see your post - for our cabin, it's approx $400 a night.
It's just my wife and I, do some cabins are larger, and will cost more. Like I said earlier, I love that area, the culture, the architectural style, scenery, and of course the food. I'm a life long Texan, but I could live in New Mexico really easily. We go there a lot. This trip is for solitude and hopefully some good fishing. Thanks again to all who responded.
