Had the opportunity to take my oldest daughter on a youth hunt last weekend thanks to CS78. Our hunt was to start early Saturday morning. I had the alarm set and truck packed Friday night and couldn't sleep bc I was excited for her and her first hunt. Get a call Saturday morning from CS78 "How close are y'all", yep it's 6:17 and we are still in bed. Note to self, DOUBLE check your alarm and make sure it's not set to just weekdays. After the major dad fail and light speed driving to CS78's place we get in the blind around 7:30. He tells me deer tend to move later in the morning and sure enough at about 9:15 a doe shows up but she left quick so no opportunity. My daughter was happy just to see a deer that morning but she really wanted to get a chance to harvest one too. We decided to eat some breakfast and hang out with CS78 at his cabin. We build a fire and my daughter roamed the woods until it was time for the afternoon hunt.
Breakfast

Back in the stand around 3:30. We saw 4 buck but no shooters. We had my daughter practice placing the cross-hairs on these deer so she could get use to it.

CS78 was kind enough to let us come back Sunday morning for a hunt. We left the house on time and in the blind before sun up.

About 8:00 am two does show up and both are shooters. I give my daughter the go ahead on one of the does and she squeezes the trigger and one of the does ...hops the fence and moves behind brush. She was hunting with a semi auto Remington .243, the same gun my grandfather gave me and I shot my first deer with. I told her to find the other doe and take her. She squeezes of another round and the doe dropped and never moved. Neck shot. I asked her why she did that instead of behind the shoulder and she "I didn't what to take the chance of ruining any of the meat and I thought I could hit her in the neck." We gave her about 30 min and walked out to her.

Got the doe home an the the other kids were excited for their sister and can't wait for their turn to go hunting. Thank you CS78 again for the chance to hunt with my daughter! #raisingthemright
