Does anyone make a good one of these yet? I'd like to find something with a good app that uses WiFi and bluetooth. This would be a christmas gift for my dad so it would need to be relatively simple to use and reliable. If it's not both of those he won't use it. The idea is he could rest in his chair inside and maybe catch a nap while the remote thermometer is tracking the pit temp. Instead of getting up, he could just glance at the phone app to check the pit or it would alarm and wake him up if the pit temp was too low. I think it would need to be WiFi to get the distance needed but bluetooth would also be handy when we're cooking in places without wifi. I'm hesitant to trust Amazon reviews on this so I came here. Any suggestions?

Either will serve him well. Just a matter of how much functionality he's looking for

I have a FireBoard. It does all of the things you want, and I have been very happy with it. I can catch a nap while smoking and the alarm will wake me if temps get out of parameters that you set. It's also nice to be able to run errands while the smoker is going at home, and remotely check her temp on my phone while I'm gone. Highly recommend.

Search for old threads as this topic comes up pretty regularly, but as the poster above, I use a fireboard and it has been rock solid on many cooks for me. Highly recommend one.

+1 for the Signals. Had the Weber iGrill which is good, but no WiFi

I have a Thermoworks Smoke + Gateway. The Smoke has a RF remote read out and the Gateway gives you wifi. I've liked it well enough although I had some unnecessary trouble with a firmware update on the Gateway. I really like my Thermapen and that quality sold me on the Smoke.

If I had it to do over again based on my latest round of research ( in the last year or so) I'd buy the FireBoard.

All you need is the multiproble thermometer, or are you wanting a fan & temperature controller as well?

Went ahead and ordered the Fireboard. Looks awesome. I like the possibility of expanding with the fan for his egg or may even retrofit it into the big pit someday. Thanks for the help!

I have a extended range Meater and I like it. I like how simple it is being a single probe. No wires and the app is very usable.

But the OB might give me a little grief because I use a propane smoker..............

I've got a Meater+ and like it as well. The software was a bit quirky at first, but they have updated and it works better now.

I honestly think some of the other higher end units are better, for sure. But the Meater delivers well for the price in my book.

(Liking Meater doesn't seem to be a popular opinion with some OB'ers...)

My meater block has never worked once. Won't even connect.

What all of them said about Meater (except the guy who said it would not connect)! Recently went the CyberQ Cloud route for the BGE, thing cratered after two cooks, pulled the Meater outta the drawer it had been in for MONTHS and it WORKED GREAT. Been using it since and am really pleased!!!!

I have a regular indoor wireless thermometer that I bought for about $35 at Sur La Table on Santana Row in San Jose, CA.

It has different program settings for different types of meats. The wireless sending unit and the receiver work well over a line of sight distance of 40-50 feet. But the probes aren't really made for the duration required for smoking.

I managed to solve this problem by buying some $20 probes from Weber. I'd like to have the Weber App but, I'm not willing to spend $200 for it when I've got a $50 solution that works for now. The iGrill 2 is probably the best way to go for $100.

I had an iGrill and it was good. I replaced it with a Flame Boss 400 that is a fan & WiFi controller for my BGE.

I needed a wireless probe for a turkey cook this thanksgiving and I got the ThermPro from Amazon. It was "Amazon's Choice". For $49 it was just ok....kinda felt like I wasted my money because of how basic it is.

I have a ThermaPen and love it. Should have spent the money on their stuff.

I use a thermopro to BBQ with. I really like it. Sometimes the range is really far depending on being in the house or not. It seems to be accurate when comparing it to other thermometers. It is a really good tool for a lower price than the ones that hook up to your phone. It comes with 2 probes which I use one for the meat and one for grate temperature.

Finally got around to contacting Meater customer support and they sent me a new BLOCK. Charging now and will try to connect lateer today.

Put me down for the Meater + also. Tired more expensive, but this thing works for me and how I BBQ!
