Get rid of their reason for digging. Usually grubs.

You'll get lots of answers:

Treat your yard for grubs to reduce the source of food

Trap (they typically don't come to bait btw)

Or eliminate.

Whether you are inside city limits or not, and how committed you are to late night yard checks will answer whether you want to pursue Option 3.

You could always trap some armadillos and introduce them to your yard. I know they love to eat grubs.

For option 2, you have to build a funnel to direct the dillos into the trap. I have used the staked nylon silt fencing to make the funnel. It worked but my biggest issue with this approach is the funnel is "in the way".

For option 3, .22 sub-sonic rounds work really well.

This is what I use: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2506135961

The 60 grain bullet packs a wallop! One shot, one kill.

I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

Even if you get rid of grubs you may still have earthworms which are beneficial to your lawn and armadillos also eat. I've had best luck using a live trap and I simply put it along a fence and they walk right in. The fence acts as the funnel mechanism which others have mentioned. After you catch one I believe the scent attracts others and they seem to be easier to trap. I catch multiple every year. Usually within a day or two of the first sign they have been in the yard.

They pay $2.50 down in Halletsville, $3, maybe more.

I caught one in my yard a few weeks ago.

Foxes probably won't work.

You'll probably need something larger, like coyotes.

Just let some cats go in your yard, and Shazam, you'll have some coyotes!

Get some hogs, that way you won't notice the dillo holes

The Armadillo trap.com
Get the pre-scented trap. It works. About $150 but worth it if you really have a problem. Having ridded myself of those 3:00 am digging bastages, I have loaned it to five friends with equal results.
And when you trap them, do us all a favor and kill them.

You sir, won the interwebs today. Kudos.

To edit, azul, before the dillos and fox eat all the orange head/white body grub worms, dig them up, use them for catfish bait and invite your friends on the OB for the fish fry.

Shoot'em!! Might need a suppressor depending on where you live. Thermal scope will make it easier in the dark!
