Looking to paint smokers that I'm building. What's the best high temp paint to use that comes in various colors. Specifically maroon. Spray or brush on? I'm sure that this question had been asked before, and I apologize for repeat questions. I don't get on here much.

Thanks

I've only ever seen black high temp paint at a store. Custom bbq makers offer different colors so I know its possible to get other colors. I would try to find a large paint company like sherwin William's or the like that sells high temp paint then inquire about colors. I think I saw someone post a while back about bringing in some Aggie apparel to the store for them to paint match with.

Engine header/block paint is ceramic based. Its essentially the same stuff as BBQ grill paint. They come in different colors other than just black.

I was going to suggest VHT "Flame proof" because they're the only brand I recall seeing in colors other than black/white/grey, but a quick Google search show that they don't have maroon.

If you use a high quality black high heat paint, I use Sheffields Pot Belly Black, you can then paint over it with any color you want.

I can't comment on color accuracy or quality, but I have had this in my saved items for years just waiting for an opportunity:

I called nearest Sherwin Williams and they said they only have black and I should go to an automotive store. Guy was kinda ride to me about it. Not going to go back there for this project. Their loss.

Yea I saw that in my research. It's hard to believe that there aren't more options out there. Thanks for your input.

Use high temperature header paint. Mix red, blue and black to get the right shade of maroon. If you are in college station I can give you a contact of someone who has painted some UDS maroon by mixing his win paint.

You will most likely only find high temp paint in black, silver, or white. Yes, a ceramic should be available in other colors. Your results may not be satisfactory with the "exhaust" paint. Maybe do a small test piece with the exhaust paint you want to use, get it hot inside after the recommended cure time & see how it holds up.

POR-15 High Temp paint is real good but only comes in white, black and silver. Meets or exceeds properties and requirements of MIL-C-13370. It can handle extreme temperatures up to 1200F / 648.8C and will resist cracking, chipping, and peeling. It is also extremely weather, salt and moisture resistant.

Agree with above. Mix your own.

Find engine enamel in red, blue and yellow

If not wanting to mix own. Find your nearest classic car club. Someone in the group will know a painter who painted their engine block. Call that painter.

op. also low rider clubs. if you happen to be out and about, maybe at a carwash.....ask the owner of a tricked out lowrider or equivalent who painted their car.
one thing about tricked out low rider car owners is that they are car lovers at heart.....just like the classic car guys. they will gladly help and talk about their cars or painters etc...

Just for anyone following this thread, I spoke with a couple other pit masters that have a proven method.
Use 2000 header or high temp primer for the first coat. Follow up with high gloss exterior paint. Even got the home Depot mixture for Aggie Maroon. Email me if anyone needs that mixture

Give Ryan Newland at Backline Smokers a call. He painted my pit in maroon.
